UCH Now Bidding for AA?

A friend of mine (Delta Capt) told me this morning there are reports that United has now entered the fray for bidding for American.

Anyone else hear this?

Are you sure your DAL buddy didn't mean DAL was 'considering' the fact??

Delta considers bid to buy American Airlines parent - Pacific Business News

Better add the Cactus to the "Considering", or "May" short list.

Believe it when we see it......Nothing but speculation from what I can see. Having anything more concrete??

Don't see how that would pass the regulators.

Let DAL go through the regulatory hoopla and when the smoke and carnage clears, pick up the pieces they were made to divest. Could save a lot of time, money, and headache.

I could see UAL getting some of the "carve out" to make a DAL/AA combo work.

MIA would be one jewel that UAL would want.

I'd bet another 4 or 5 buzzards join the circle over the next months. UAL isn't going to sit around while everyone else tries to tear meat off of a competitors carcass and not get scraps and shards. On the off chance a break up occurs, UAL would look like saps if they weren't in the mix and ready to improve their position with a sharpend beak.

PDTPILOT 01-18-2012 08:48 AM

I think it's a big ploy to get the airlines that are really interested to ante up big bids.

oldmako 01-18-2012 08:51 AM

IF (big if) it were true, UAL would probably overlook MIA.

"Why, MIA when can serve South America from NY?" (now Jersey). Sound familiar?

My glass half empty (and leaking) outlook says they'd rather continue to bludgeon ALPA and carve up the U side while slowly adding guppies to the CAL side. If they were to buy anything from AA it would probably be chunks of Eagle and some old 767-200's. They'd paint them, redo the interiors and FMS's, perform expensive D checks and then sell them at a huge loss. Anyone remember the expensive new boxes in the 737's that went in right before they parked them?

I give these guys zero credit. Zero. DAL continues to improve while we dick around with paint and el hefe's co-worker videos.
