How the PAX see the merger...

United Airlines Should Be Ashamed at How Their Switchover to Continental Systems Has Failed Fliers : Enterprise Irregulars

All in all, United’s changeover to Continental’s system has proved an absolute disaster aside from the employees who have represented the airline so well — in front of customers faced with challenge after challenge. Yet even smiles and empathy will not go far enough. In part because one upgrade did not clear as it should have for a refundable ticket, one member of our team took matters into his own hands and simply walked over to a Southwest gate for an alternative flight and canceled his United ticket. I suspect we’ll all be doing this more often unless United fixes things quickly and makes amends for all the time its most profitable customers have wasted simply trying to get from Point A to Point B in the same manner that they used to.

C,mon....Jeff says that everything went smoothly and all of the co-workers are happy. Sure, we have stalled the pilots on the contract, but... "what's the rush?"

HSLD 03-25-2012 02:03 PM

If only that passenger would have boarded a UA flight, he could have heard Jeff say "if I coud say two things...it's about dignity and respect" :) I've been flying for the last week and every flight we've had irate premium international passengers. To the person, they've all been angry as hell over ticketing problems.

I don't see this train wreck turning around until Jeff finds a way to deliver on the "dignity and respect", rather than just say the words.

After 9 years of bankruptcy wages and treatment, does anyone have any feelings towards the passengers? When a company negotiator says "what's the rush" in negotiating a JCBA, why should I spend any emotional capital on the angst of the people sitting behind me?

Nine years of telling my family no has pretty much sucked the "happy pilot" out of me. My compassion meter is pegged once I leave home for the airport.

The only effort I will expend is flying the passengers safely from A to B. In that regard, I treat the passengers like they are my family.

I was in EWR commuting back home to IAH, when Jeff walks up to the boarding area. Well to make short story, pax thought he was a celebrity. They were taking pics with the guy!! Some people came to bs with him and Im thinking he doesnt care. I thought one guy was going to kiss him. He was handicapped and was sitting on otherside but wow he managed to get up and walk to him. Everyone that i saw complimented him on his great job with merger.

I thought it was funny how these people thought he was a legend of some sort and was that excited to tell him how great of job hes doing. Wonder what they saying now since its actually happened.

Sounds like a dog and pony show with CAL employees acting as stooges. You do know it's just a job - don't you?

That's not the ONLY CAL dog and Pony show going on. They're busy trying to tell US in OPB how we should think as well. What a load of Bunk!! They don't have their OWN act together and they want to run OUR act. You have to know what YOU'RE doing First to tell us ANYTHING!!

Yep all us CAL 'stooges' loved working for Jeff at CAL so why not again at UAL! Preach on Reverend cause your knowledge of scripture is the truth!

I remember UAL guys once telling me at least a merger with CAL would bring in CAL's management team to run the show instead of Glenn's group. Funny how few listened when I pointed out that Bethune and Brennenman left many years ago. Oh well happy we all anchored to the same chain now!

Pilotbiffster 03-26-2012 09:42 AM

and it feels like that anchor has been tossed into a deep deep lake.

This is the byproduct of employees being forced to learn a different system, (not necessarily a better one), with no incentive other than the choice of being shown the door. Still fresh in the minds of those employees is the large payout for smizek and tilton for dreaming up this merger while us peons are being told to make it work or else.

It wasn't me saying that. I've always said that CAL had nothing UAL wanted and that gets "more true" every day.

My feelings exactly .. it feels like we've gone from working at a Westin to working at a Motel 6. Jeff and company are running Hillbilly airlines... cheapest coffee, cheapest first class meals, cheapest red carpet club food, cheapest crew meals. Really, working with coworker Jeff is like inviting your Ozark cousins to a a black tie affair. They WANT to be classy, but just don't have a clue as to how to get there.

They do well at dog and pony shows. Why do we still have CAL and UAL pilots having their picture taken with the company banner in the background. I don't care what the cause, If the cause is that important to you do it outside the company and not in uniform. I don't know how to post pictures on this forum, but maybe some of these company pix should show up with names, so we can all get to know the people better.

I had a DH the other day and during my stroll towards the back for a lav break and stretch I ended up talking with a 1K Status passenger. He was seated in the last row by the lav because the agent told him the plane had no E+ on board (it did). He said that was just one of the many things he'd have to write another e-mail about or making another phone call over. A very nice business guy, not someone complaining just to complain. He said he understands that the crews pretty much have no control over what's been going on, but then added: "I liked the United system. I liked the Continental system. Both systems were great by themselves. I do not like the 'new' system at all and the airline is going to start losing customers very quickly as this is no way to treat regular customers, let alone the premium fliers." I wish I had gotten his name for a chance at a Q&A exchange with Smisek to see how he wanted to handle that question.

You don't need to ask Jeff. The only way he/they will see the problem is if they see a hit in bottom line numbers. If anything, it may help us get a JCBA sooner. Jeff will see it as an employee problem and not a management problem and offer money. Just fly the airplane by contract and left the airline self-implode.
