This gives us a major rub. PBS doesn't honor seniority. This is due to: lack of seniority locking, methodology of absence capture, non-contractural mandate by management to assign all trips, homogonization of flight time, moving target staffing model; also non contractural and completely within the company's perogative under the management rights clause (previous 10% reserve complement in CBA 97).
Hey at least we agree on something, but PBS only has to do with this thread, "April 30th released date", in that Pierce, Prater and Zullo traded a severely under stated "$12M" in savings for it. The poor L-UAL pilots have no idea how many man-days will be covered by them for free, when the L-CAL PBS system survives, if trip and duty rigs are waived. As I have said in previous threads, CAL-PBS only placates the small percentage of scabs that the airline has determined it absolutely needs to keep happy in order to ramrod everyone else. It's amazing how small that percentage really is. I just hope that management's perception is wrong and the membership has overwhelmingly encouraged the MEC to join the UAL-MEC at today's meeting. |

Anything but unification by JP is a clear message that he is working for management and that scabbery shall once again prevail at CAL. And that CAL will ONCE AGAIN be used as the leverage to destroy yet another airline. |

I suggest that we all take a break from this thread until that meeting is concluded. At the conclusion of this meeting we'll know if we are a unified unstoppable force. The ball is in JP's court.

Wow.. Started with taking a break...but couldn't resist chewing on the bone again. IF CAL does or does not support a unilateral decision by your MEC, it's because we have told our elected reps. I have no crystal ball on what will be decided, but I can tell you, that many ive talked with on the line are irate and open to cutting the cord, until the MECs can function properly...because of the dismissal of our pilot group...so don't blame JP if that becomes an eventuality. Look to the solo decision of your MEC.

Scab behavior either way.
So now I'm "Scab Behavior" because I've told my Rep that I will support them if we are forced to go it alone? Nice. Please feel free to speak to me if you ever see me in IAD or EWR. I have no problem chatting face to face with any UAL Pilot. Spoken with many of them at Rally's, Picketing Events and other places. Peter "Motch" Matschulat EWR 756 FO 137th AS, ex C5A FE |

It would be better than what we have now. I am tired of being held hostage by CALALPA.
Can you please tell me (and everyone else..) how CALALPA holds you hostage? There are many issues with our Union. But reading threads concerning EVERY OTHER UNION out there, there are issues every where! So now you would be ok having UAL ALPA or ALPA National force upon to us whoever they feel they want to put into power?! The only way the current issue is resolved is if ALPA National and LM get the two sides to sit down and hash out the problem. I would have hoped that LM would have attended the UAL Meeting the other night, and the CAL one today. But to say that you'd be ok with UAL and ALPA National trying to decert our MEC over what amounts to a UAL MEC uncoordinated move is beyond my comprehension. Motch |
You know what.. I'm done for now.
Will see what happens tonight.. and maybe I'll post next week. In the end, think too many people's minds are made up. It is what it is. And after reading about the potential AA/USAir merger.. maybe it's time to start planning that next career. I don't think our industry can support 3 major/legacy carriers out there. Unfortunately, maybe it's "United" that does finally fade away in a few years. Oh well. Motch |

With Skywest new hires having between 700-1000 hours and the tsunami of retirements at the majors starting next year, it will be interesting to see if the regionals can sustain flying levels with the new 1500 hour requirement kicking in next year.
