First of all, who on sick list checks their UAL email? Second, I'm pretty sure that I am protected by federal law from having to discuss my illness with my employer. Anyone have a statute handy?

Last, with the schedules they are forcing right now, why are they surprised that people are getting sick? 4 on, 1 off, 6 on, 2 off, 4 on, 1 off, 5 on will make you sick... and tired. The only thing I haven't figured out is whether there will be 1 or 2 fatigue calls for me during that stretch.

Far from an attorney, but 'think' the "HIPAA Provisions" would cover the employee for NOT being obligated to discuss their "illness" with their employer as mentioned above.

I believe at sCAL you can rope-a-dope all you want and have no obligation to divulge anything. However contractually they can require you to see a company for continued employment.

What he said. In all seriousness, they have the right to require a note from the doctor. If there are certain pilots causing problems, deal with them. A blanket request......well?

And the note need only say "This individual saw me on this date--signed, Doctor" and no more.
