good luck with that. My understanding is that lax reserves are routinely deheaded to iah and ewr to cover trips. Is it possible yes, is it likely no. Like 1 in a million.

SNA, also be aware they have 12 months to fulfill an award on a bid.

IAH
Houston will take a significant hit on B-767 departures. All of the B-764 departures will be moved to L-UAL 763 and UAL 777 aircraft. We expect this change to occur between January and May 2013. The B-764 aircraft flying out of IAH are going to operate routes out of EWR and IAD. To that end, the next System Bid will reflect a shift in F/O positions from IAH to EWR to support more IRO positions in EWR. It has yet to be determined if IAH is going to be a pure B-757 base, or if IAH will support some IAD flying. In support of L-UAL 763 flying, we expect an L-UAL 763 base to be established in IAH. Large technical challenges still exist with the establishment of such a base, so the exact timing is not possible to pin down right now. IAH B-777 will see a reduction in daily departures from four (4) to three (3). IAH B-787 will see an increase in staffing positions on this next bid, likely in the neighborhood of 10-plus captains and 25-plus first officers. Houston-crewed HI flying is expected to shift to L-UAL B-777 aircraft. There are some kinks to that plan, so it’s not solid as of right now, but is likely to happen at some point. IAH B-787 is slated to take IAH-AMS, IAH-LOS in early 2013. Also, IAH-LAX-PVG, IAH-LAX-NRT and IAH-DEN-NRT are planned routes for the B-787. Our first B-787 is scheduled for service in mid-September. CLE Cleveland has been losing departures and likely is carrying a few more crews than would normally be seen for the amount of flying the base operates. There are two scenarios for CLE in the short term: increase the daily departures, or attrit the base down to the proper size. If the latter were to happen, CLE crews can expect to see a gap between the “Min/Max” on the System Bid. This is a method used to shrink the base without causing any displacements – it essentially lets pilots out of the base without replacing them until the base drops below minimum staffing levels. EWR Newark can expect to see an increase in B-756 and B-737 flying. The B-756 increase comes from added B-764 departures and the need for more IROs in the base. We do not expect to see a significant increase in captain positions on the B-756 on this next System Bid. LAX, GUM We do not expect to see a significant change in the LAX base. GUM will see the termination of the seven-day pairing in October due to HKG-SIN being operated once again by L-UAL B-777 aircraft. The new pairing will be five days; refer to the Pairing Committee blog for particulars (published around the 20th of every month). DEN, ORD Both the new DEN and ORD bases can expect to see a significant increase in B-737 flying. This information affects a large number of pilots, especially those in the IAH B-756 base. |

There is only a 5% chance of being based in GUM? I would think that would almost be a guarantee for a newhire. I guess there must be some reserves that live there and like it? Also, IF hiring happens in the fall on the Cal side, will a letter of rec help from a senior Ual captain?
Thanks, Car Ramrod |
How junior is Guam? Are you locked into your awarded base or can you bid out to the same equipment if there are vacancies?
