Pay in CAL training

Pardon my ignorance, but does anybody recall if Continental pays per diem while in training? If it matters, I'm a UAL furloughee. Thanks.

skippy 09-24-2012 11:20 AM

yes, i think u only get perdiem if u get EWR though, and over the course of training, it works out to be about $2350 ish BNTPD-- i dont know if u get taxable houston perdiem if based in houston.

Richiscool 09-24-2012 11:21 AM

Yes, I actually just re-read my CAL packet. Per Diem will be paid while in training at a rate of $44 a day. But not sure it that in continuous, of just the physical days in training

"Expense allowance (per diem) for time away from Base will be paid for each training event (excluding initial operating experience), including days off and applicable travel days, and appropriate to the location of training (i.e., Basic or Premium), from the first day of such training to the last training day, in accordance with the rates in Paragraph A above, multiplied by twenty-four (24) for each such day or partial day."

embflieger 09-24-2012 11:29 AM

Rich, is that independent of basing?

embflieger 09-24-2012 11:33 AM

Never mind, I found it. If anybody else is wondering, "Training pay is calculated at 2:24 hours per day... Per diem will be paid ... at the rate of $44.oo per day."

Roper92 09-24-2012 01:45 PM

So 2.4 * $31 ($74.40) is training pay? Is that for the 4-6 weeks or only during days actually at the school house? Seems kind of low but I may be way off.

Do they still positive space you home on the weekends or other off days?

mossimo 09-24-2012 02:51 PM

You get per diem, $44 a day, for the entire time you are in training, including off days, regardless of your base. If you're UAL, then you get your last UAL rate at 72 hours per month until you finish O.E.

I went thru it myself a few months back, IAH based.

What about if you go to training on larger equipment? I'm going from 737 FO to 777 FO. Do I get 777 hourly pay rates right away when I start training???

I can't find an answer in our POS contract.

LOL. That would be nice, but no. If I remember correctly you get your 777FO pay rate when you finish the MV/LOE. Until then, it's your last pay rate from your prior equipment. Would be nice if it was in the compensation section as a scenario, but it's under training.

Contract Section 11 Part 12.A:

During OE a pilot will be considered to be in the Equipment and Status in which he is flying for purposes of scheduling and compensation.

When you pass the MV/LOE at the end of training one of the items that the check airman has to tick off on his checklist is telling the company you're now in your new position. Everything done after that point is under your new pay scale.

Ahem... How do you get the CAL new hire off your porch? Pay 'im for the pizza! Sorry, sorry. Tip your waitress.

75 dollars a day! Dam I glad my father gave me a trade with the ability to be my own man and made me get a degree. I wouldn't even get out of bed for that. Well dreamers are what makes this world turn and as I said on the USAir thread you guys jumping over each other to work for peanuts is what's wrong with this industry, its us look in the mirror.

Yeh, yeh, yeh but a great contract is coming. Well I'm willing to wait for it, before I'm someones *****. flame on it the truth

Thanks for that info. I read over the training section but I missed that sentence.

A regional pilot lecturing about not working for peanuts? Priceless. Take a look at any regional contract that was NOT negotiated in a guaranteed profit environment and report back.

Don't hurt yourself thumping your chest cause XJT has done nothing but regress contractually since '07. That's just one of the reasons I have no regrets over leaving a feeder. Enjoy juniornity.
