At least you know they're not representing your regional lift.

Are you sure? Take a look at Us Air payrates. :D

Anyone know what the procedure is to resign one's membership in ALPA?

I've been making excuses like a battered woman for over a decade now:

It's not their fault.
They have no control.
They won't do it again.
They're sorry.
They promise to make things right.
It's actually my fault for getting hired when I did.

I'm finished.

Call ALPA National and resign.

It is absolutely true that the union prefers to have furloughees back instead of new hires off of the street at CAL. Most of the folks saying that furloughees need to get back sooner than later because the sky is going to fall are less than genuine in their concern.

Just playing devils advocate, say the isl gets done sometime the middle to end of next year. Latest forecast is 6-8 months. After it is finalized and a furloughee wants to come back it could be a long time. Since there will be no flush bid a vacancy must exist. If we hire 500 a year (optimistic) then it could be 2 years for some. If its less a lot longer.

Yes it was true two years ago. So long as UAL guys fill the CAL vacancies there is no problem, but bring in new hires and that will cause somebody being blocked from getting back at some point. This is stating the obvious. An ISL is the only sure way to protect the furloughees from some force majeur.

You may be right about the sincerity and the motives, although I don't agree with you, but in either case, the furloughees would do well not to pass up a job even if the TA is turned down. The last thing we need is some third lister suing for some entitlement that he perceived was promised to him. Sorry, not trying to create fear, you guys have endured enough.

Nice rant.

Why do you say "they", when it's really "you?"

What have you done to make things better?

A union is only as good as it's membership and the volunteers who chip in to get the job done. If you don't like the results, chip in and make a positive contribution.
1. HOW can I volunteer? I don't live in a domicile & get precious few days off at home with my wife and children.

2. WHY should I have to volunteer? I PAY this organization to represent me.

Same battered woman excuse: it's my own fault for getting repeatedly screwed.

And regarding your "rant" comment, I have EARNED the right to rant. In fact, two thousand one hundred and seventy two of us have earned the right to rant, rave, scream and yell.

ALPA is a bully organization with a long history of punching it's most junior members right in the mouth again and again. And I learned long ago that bullies don't respond to "please stop punching me in the mouth".

Pander to the furloughees???

How about just considering their sacrifice, repeatedly, and awarding them what is fairly theirs?

Wow, feeling more and more sold down the river by the minute...

More idiocy . . . the ISL procedure is specifically outlined with a very specific timeline, and 6 to 8 months is way off. Find it and post it online and I will pay you $100. Guaranteed here on the web just post and clip this post. Anyone who can post and clip the exact timeline can earn $100, and yes it does exist and no it's not 6 to 8 months.
