Yeah owning your own feed seems counterproductive to UALs wet dream to become a travel agency. As Comair and Eagle are both going away it seems a failed experiment for AA and DAL. It also is counterproductive to the process of"churning" express labor by swapping carriers around every few years. They would just be repeating the mistakes of AA and DAL. Our management wouldn't be so stupid to keep repeating mistakes, would they?
Upon further review, yes, they are that stupid.

UAL has never been one to own their feed anyway. THey didn't follow AMR and DAL down that road. THey would rather farm it out to the lowest bidder. Pit 6 or 7 carriers against each other...lowest bid wins. DAL would have been smart to do the same....as they are now. How much did they pay for Comair? ASA? How did that work out for them? This section allows UAL to buy a feeder without the flying being considered "company flying". Meaning UNITED flying. It says right in the paragraph that the flying will have to comply with 1.C.1 - our scope section covering UAX. It is amazing how all us forum experts think we are smarter than SMEs and lawyers Alpa pays good money for.

Take a deep breath and repeat after me. ALPA is not an idiot . . .
You're grasping at straws here, and if you seriously read that and thought there was some magic loop hole, then I'm sorry to disappoint you. This means UAX carriers are NOT UAL pilots BUT they still have to follow ALL the UAX rules.

"ALPA is not an idiot"
But Nope..not grasping at straws. Don't see some magic loophole either.
It just... doesn't... sit well with me that United can own an airline, hire pilots, pour resources into it...and not have it be considered company flying. I can clearly see that 1-C-1 still applies.
As a two time furloughee, I've done a 180 on my thoughts about the issue of United owning a regional operation. I'd actually fly those aircraft if it meant getting paid a rate, work rules and benefits package that my United brothers and I agreed to. Better than being furloughed.
I do "get it" when guys mention that we don't want to have to deal with the merger issues, but that comes second to my perception of what it will be like if they could operate a second (albeit limited by scope) airline.

"You got yours, right?"....YGTBSM!!! Jsled is likely a 15+yr UALer like myself. Probably barely hanging on to his 756 right seat after a decade and a half like myself. Topping at $109/hr after 15 yrs. How about you, CaptainCarl? Let me guess....You've been at CAL about 10 years or so? Flying as a 737 captain? You never really wanted this merger and, hey, if this ISL never gets done then Continental Airlines is pretty much all that will be left of "the New United". Well you know what? If I'm even in the ballpark here, it would sound to me like....You got Yours Captain!

The creation and continued health of the regionals is a cancer that I would like to see cut out. If I'm doing the same job you're doing in the same airspace, paint scheme, etc, I'd like to be on your seniority list. I'd also like the benefit of being right seat to the "old" guys who've been around forever and have far greater experiences than I do and, thus, much more wisdom to share.

I knew some smart fellow would bring up Air Wisconsin as I typed the post. Good job. Bought in 1991 (for the Ohare slots) sold off completely by 1993 I think. Big difference from Amr going out and buying all the Eagles and Dal spending close to 2 BILLION for Comair and ASA. Now they are both trying to emulate the UAL model. Imagine that?

It wasn't such a bad idea that somebody had. Insert the words "may not" and he would be. Might even be senior to me?!!
Also may eliminate any possible conflict of interest that might exist for ALPA by trying to serve his present pilot group's best interest and ours at the same time.
