L-UAL second Jump Seat
Grievance The MEC Grievance Committee reports that it has reached a settlement with the Company regarding the group grievance concerning the Violation of Section 21.K.2 - 757 Second Cockpit Jumpseat. For any United 757 aircraft that does not have a second cockpit jumpseat, the Company will ensure the availability of a seat in the cabin for use by a jumpseat eligible United pilot to be administered in the same manner as if the aircraft had a second jumpseat installed (i.e. allUnited pilots eligible to occupy the cockpit jumpseat will also be eligible to occupy this alternate jumpseat, in the same priority). Access to occupy this alternate second jumpseat is limited to United pilots who request a jumpseat at least 20 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Pilot jumpseat rider access to unoccupied cabin seats on Subsidiary United 757 aircraft is unaffected by this settlement - i.e. a jumpseat rider can elect to ride in an unoccupied cabin seat rather than the cockpit jumpseat. In the event that it is necessary to bypass or remove customers, the Company will solicit for volunteers and offer denied boarding compensation. Although we don’t anticipate any problems, pilots who encounter any difficulties with the new procedure may inform the CSR to reference GG JUMP 757 for instructions. Additionally, pilots should file a PDR. Additionally, the Grievance Committee is relieved to announce that the Company has finally decided to comply with our contractual language requiring First Class travel to training. Effective immediately, pilots traveling to training on UA Company routes (IATA code 016- to include sUAL, sCAL, and UAX) will be booked in First Class. This has been a contractual right for the United pilots that was delayed by the other parties. |

Guys, it's not about removing revenue pax, it's about enforcing the contract. If we let them slide, it's open season on the new contract. You know Jeffy will push the envelope anyway, let's not give him a free pass...

Exactly, the company agreed to put a 2nd seat in the cockpit, until they make good on that agreement using a cabin seat is acceptable. It's your contract, enforce it or lose it. |
A note about this change
Last week on a full flight from DEN - ORD (I had a confirmed seat) two commuters were given jump seats, one in the cockpit and one in the cabin, according to this agreement. It was a 757 and guess what? There were two jump seats and the gate agent would not allow the commuting pilots to go down and confirm if there was two seats in the cockpit. The airplane left non-UAL jumpseaters and Rev passengers while there was an available cockpit seat in the cockpit. Go figure the laziness and control freak of the PA to neither allow or check to see if there were two seats on this airplane. And this is a first hand true account, I witnessed this whole thing. Oh, and they didn't want to let me go down early to stow my bags either. |

The gate walk...who was this captain whom has not herd of the gate walk....ever since shares came to s-UAL the union has repeated to all captains to do a gate walk before departure and make sure we take care of our own....I do it every flight as do others I know. The jumpseat comunications have been very clear on this.

Yep your boss is know Fred Abbott so forget about any common sense when it comes to the JS. So we got access to an extra seat on the fleet slated to be parked pronto. Wonderful. Good thing ALPA did a spectacular job in securing access to the FA JS in this contract! :rolleyes:
