Advice on reserve vs commuting to a line

Hello all.
I am returning to UAL after a long hiatus.
I would appreciate any advice on the relative merits/drawbacks of left seat reserve DEN 737 vs commute to line holding F/O IAH 777.
I have not flown in the merged operation or under the new CBA.
Thx in advance.

Drive to work, no question

Thx for the reply. I really don't want to commute, BUT it looks like 4-5 extra days off a month unless the reserves aren't flying everyday (I assume they are or will be).

I would rather work the ramp then commute to work. Also the DEN-IAH commute is not all that easy....even on PS travel it is still a pain in the arse!

Welcome back to the suck!

If you live in base, every day is a day off even on reserve.

Depending on your seniority that 4-5 days can easily be eaten up with your commute, with the worry and hotels to boot. But you probably already know that. If your hiatus has been "long" then you might be surprised to find how well managements are at flying full aircraft now. If you have access to CCS go to the PBS page and look up category reports (line awards) for the BES you're thinking about commuting to and see if people at your seniority can get commutable trips. This will at least give you an idea of the possibilities. Then if you have access to EmpRes start looking at non-rev travel listings to and from that base and see where you sit compared to other non revs.

IAH - DEN should be renamed the UAL Employee Shuttle. Lots of flights, but lots of PS deadheaders. And very full flights a lot of the time.

DEN-IAH the PS5 drive :)

I'd rather have a normal sleep cycle than using most of those 4-5 extra days changing my sleep cycle back.

There seems to be rather a common theme here
