First trip on IOE?

Just curious what city pairs new hires have flown on IOE with United. If possible, please include your equipment and base. Thanks.

Andy 12-23-2014 06:11 PM

Every answer's going to be different. Why would you ask this?

Like I said, just curious. Getting tired of doing LAX-SAN turns, looking forward to what's next :)

That's actually not a bad city pair. It's a short flight, but at least you're going to two nice places.

All airports you will go to consist of one or more 1 to 2.5 miles of arrow straight concrete. Before long, they will all seem the same.

You're absolutely right. I love flying up and down the coast, it's beautiful flying.

Here's a PDF map that shows potential domestic IOE city pairs.

And the international one.

:D

How hard was that? Thanks Monkeyfly :)

Takes at least that many legs to learn how to tear the paper the right way.

Not hard at all. I don't remember my IOE flights from being a newhire, my IOE flights when I returned from my first furlough, or my IOE flights when I returned from my second furlough. They were as memorable as Probe described.

Cadetdrivr's post should have been a hint that you will not get any useful information.

By the way, you DID notice the equipment that Monkeyfly listed, didn't you? That's not a fresh datapoint.

As far as what's next, just look at what the worst destinations are for your aircraft and plan on going there while you're on reserve. If you're lucky, perhaps a few exotic international destinations like SVMI (CCS) and TTPP (POS).

It's often just an LCA's awarded trip that you're put in. That's why FOs bid to fly with LCAs hoping to get FBOd when an OE replaces them. For specific info go to Flying Together, Flight Standards, pick your aircraft, and there's an OE Guide that lays out what the LCA will be doing with you. If you want to further control the process, find out who the LCAs are in your base, look up their PBS CAT Award, and by-name request a specific LCA to do your OE with if one of his trips looks good to you. For bonus points, look up the LCA's email address in the Flying Together people search function and contact him directly asking if he can do your OE on that trip because you "heard he was such good instructor." They're not above flattery.

EWR-SAN-IAD-SEA-EWR

2 Landings and an Auto land didn't learn ****, except the ice cream sundays on transcons are awsome! couldn't even check all the boxes so needed another OE trip. That was fine kept me off reserve for another 2 weeks.

EWR 737

UAL T38 Phlyer 12-24-2014 10:17 AM

Don't remember the 727 or A-320.

747-400: ORD-HKG-ORD. Polar route.

756: IAH-SFO
SFO-OGG
OGG-SFO
SFO-IAH

EWR-FCO (Rome) and back.

EWR-Stockholm (can't remember the code).

737-200 back in 1997. DEN-ABQ, my first leg with UAL. In the left seat was a standards captain serving as my LCA. Observing him was another standards captain sitting on the jumpseat. The guy that was on the jumpseat is quite the character and is still around today. He always reminded me of Jeff Foxworthy. So we takeoff out of DEN, thunderstorms all over, and finally break out in the clear and get up to cruise. I get a tap on the shoulder, look back, and he says in his best southern drawl "boy, yer scarring the @#**! out of me!" I look to see a pile of rubber dog crap sitting on the jumpseat with him. How's that for breaking the ice! Good times.

737-300 1st leg ever IAH-RNO for a 50 hour layover up in Tahoe. All a blur after that.

Awesome! Good times. First trips on IOE are hard to forget, I remember my first trip at the regionals, while walking to the hotel room in Monroe, Louisiana, some kids swimming at the pool yelled out, "Excuse me sir, are you a limo driver?!"

Looking forward to my first trip at United.

The answer being "No son, I don't make that much"

Absolutely right. At $19/hr, I made less than $100 that day.

Yup, and Shuttle (737-300) after that.

Sadly the entire USA is covered with small and medium sized markets that used to be mainline.

Just how did the US survive before RJ's? :p:rolleyes:

Anyone remember that not too long ago "regional airlines" worked under FAR part 135 rules and didn't fly anything more than about 40 seats. How times change.

Left seat of 757 first IOE. Thought I was done flying with scabs, but lo and behold, a scab LCA shows up. Didn't talk much that IOE, came off the guppy/Shuttle, so didn't need much instruction.

Right up to the point we were over BOS rt downwind over the airport at 8,000 ft, and the controller says, "I don't believe it UAL, you're #1, cleared for the visual, 4R, keep it in tight." Mind you, 8,000 over the airport.

I thought that scab was going to suck up the seat cushion, major but crawl in the seat! I had fun, but him, not so much! Rolled out on final, 500', on speed, on glide path...

Klsytakesit 12-27-2014 12:51 PM

Scabs tend to do that......anytime they are not spoon dribbled on to an 8 mile final they suck seat cushion.....flying skill and scab are not compatable.......always been that way near as I can tell...

Airhoss 12-27-2014 02:26 PM

They weren't hired for their skills. They were hired for their innate scumbaggedness.

"ATC Clears United XXX to Cruise FL310 to the Kwajalein airport, report arrival, read back."
The verbiage has changed a little. Now they say, "ATC clears United 155 to descend at pilot's discretion to FL55, then cruise FL55 to the Kwajalein Airport."

They were hired because they had a pulse and said yes during a strike.. They had dodgy or little real aviation qualifications, and you can extend that to personal qualifications. They said yes because they knew they had little chance of ever getting hired by any decent airline.

I had the distinct displeasure of sitting next to scabs on both "sides" of the new UAL. I always thought UAL scabs were weirdos because we tripped them like (rap their entire careers. Turns out they were just weirdos before they showed up. LCAL scabs came from the same mother, and the same school.

IMHO

Looks like pretty similar to some of our ERJ 4-days. Damn tragedy if you ask me.

Indeed, we used to do the ERJ flying. Are you stupid? Do you even know what a 737-200 is?

Uhmmmmmmm.

I don't know how to break this to you captain obvious but let's try the direct approach. You don't seem to much of subtle detail kind of a guy.

In the days of the 727 and the 737-200 at UAL there were NO RJs. So yeah dude that is the flying that has been stolen by RJs. Which might be why it looks familiar to you? Doncha think?
