I think calling a -900 an RJ is a little insulting to the RJ, don't you think? I mean, in 8 years of RJ flying I have never ever ever had to leave ~6% of my revenue seats empty because a weight restriction! ;)
Well played sir, my apologies. |

Yeah its pretty funny to hear guys insist that it's not a Guppy, it's a "seven three seven" and is the replacement for the "seven five seven".
I never saw a '57 fly off the West coast to Denver having to buy people off. The reality is that we have a 164 seat RJ, but at least we have United pilots flying them, so that's good. or should we fly the 757 forever and ever???? |

Do you have the numbers to back up your statements or is it your gut instinct? That record profit that was linked was for Q3 2014. Prior to fuel price decline. Our December RPM's were up slightly on 2.3% ASM increase. LF declined 1.9% due to the larger increase in ASM versus December "13. So overall we put more people in seats in December '14 versus "13. The numbers don't reflect those droves you mention.

Ummmmm, per UAL's press release, we carried almost 300,000 fewer passengers in Dec '14 as compared to '13. 2.4% less. Is it droves leaving? No, but not a gain either like you state.

Thats because the sunday after thanksgiving fell into November, look at the numbers for November as well.
I know the holidays affected which month the travel days went in. happens every year. Same for Easter. However Delta managed to board +2.4 % more passengers YOY, compared to our -2.4 % drop. Hmmmmm |

However that doesn't diminish the fact of we carried less passengers in Dec 14 then Dec 13, contrary to what Lambourne stated.

Hmmmmm It is not as simple as looking at one metric to determine our performance. Thats why they publish all the metrics that they do. Just look at load factors, us and Delta were off by one basis point. That does not mean we are performing the same as them. Now my personal opinion is we are not loosing passengers in droves. What we are dealing with is that we do not have enough airplanes to be adding passengers at the rate other airlines are growing. Do we fail at times a drive people, yes. Do other airlines fail and drive people away, yes. |
