Another day, another Weight Restriction. MCO-DEN had to buy off 8 REVs this morn. 12 seats blocked. SAs hosed. WTH? over. Ahhh the Super Guppy...It's like a big RJ. At least they have the pretty blue ceiling lights.

Yeah its pretty funny to hear guys insist that it's not a Guppy, it's a "seven three seven" and is the replacement for the "seven five seven".

I never saw a '57 fly off the West coast to Denver having to buy people off. The reality is that we have a 164 seat RJ, but at least we have United pilots flying them, so that's good.

Was it an ER or a straight -900?

Not sure. AC nose number 3811. Ran into this before. SE Go Around icing penalty or some such thing? Got some freezing precip forecast in Denver this morn.

That's a fairly new 900ER. And yes, the ice penalty is almost certainly the culprit.

-900ER vs -900 difference:
Increased MTOW to from 174K to 188K
Engine rated at 28,400lbs vs 27,300lbs
Increased range (hence ER Extended Range) from 2,700NM to 3,200NM
Longer and stronger wingspan by about 4.5 feet to accommodate for new MTOW
Cruse Speed M0.791 vs M0.785
Improved leading and trailing edge flap systems

That's exactly what it is. Can't dispatch if landing weight is above single engine, ice penalty applied wave off ability weight limit if known freezing precip... Or something to that effect. Not sure if it applies to other Boeings (I've only flown the guppy, it has no tail anti ice), but Ive seen as much as 10k lbs.

811 would be a brand new 900ER.

In the event they filled it, you iced up, lost an engine, and had to wave off.... You woulda been screwed! Otherwise it's a great airplane 99% of the time. Just takes forever to load/unload. Had 188 SOB one the other day.

Just tell dispatch you can do a packs off approach and landing in DEN and the weight restriction should pretty much disappear.

I brought that airplane into mco late last night and the APU crapped out, history with that particular ship. Mco mx said they didn't have the parts avail to fix it.
