And switched to drones (from tankers so not really that much of a downgrade) and now proudly drives a Volt around. So precious!

Easy to say. I try to say the same thing when I commute but it still is stressful. What's even worse (and you didn't state above) is trying to get home and missing that last flight of the night, dragging your exhausted self to a hotel for 6 hours of sleep, and blowing $100 just to get home a day later.
BL - commuting blows...no ifs, ands, or buts about it. |
Can't resist telling my worst commute to ORD story: Over six hours hanging around trying to get a seat to ORD. Finally end up on Eagle (a seat in back), and launch for ORD just after dark. Horrible ride the entire way, followed by extensive holding for ORD. On the approach, I happen to be looking out the window and see us get hit by lighting, as screams erupt in the cabin. A couple of minutes later, we go around do to microburst alerts. With no more gas to play with, we head to GRR. The weather in GRR turns out to be bad too, and we miss the approach. At this point, I'm pretty curious as to how much gas this RJ has left as we come around for a second try. We land in GRR on the second try after 11 PM and the flight is of course cancelled from there. A lady comes up to me and says she will put a rental car on her company credit card if I drive it to Chicago. In desperation, I agree and also take along a Southwest and Mesa pilot. The drive to ORD in the middle of the night was challenging enough with heavy rain and areas of pea soup thick fog. We dropped the SWA guy off at his MDW crash pad and arrived at ORD at 3 AM.
I should have just sold shower curtain rings for a living. |

Only lived where I was based once for a year of my life at the beginning of my career, 13 years ago. It was glorious, 5 minutes up the hill. Couldn't figure out why the senior guys where still there, now I know. Commuting sux, will never compare to living in base. Thought of NetJets many times...week on week off, confirmed ticket, no stress, but...

I totally agree.....and for me it's usually dragging myself to the "sleep room" and sitting in a recliner until the first flight in the am. It sux.
You make a very good living (just not Delta good) and you can afford a hotel if you commute or you can move and not commute. Your choice... |
