Vacation swaps gone

Just read in a memo yesterday that vacation trades between pilots is no longer allowed. Is this a L-ual thing? We always had the ability at L-Cal.

It violates the integrity of seniority-based bidding. Any vacation trade means that someone junior gets a vacation originally owned by someone senior bypassing all those in between who might want it instead. Same basis for STT. Just can't trade a trip. Everyone in between the two traders has to have their shot a the more senior trip. There is no equivalent system in place to see if others more senior might want that vacation.

Oh brother! Have you even considered how the vacation bidding system works now? And if you believe in seniority so absolutely, then you must believe that once awarded you own your position, trip, vacation.. or not eh Komrad?

You nailed it. I'm only spouting the party line. You must have missed this one:

UPA 20-K-7-g. "Public bathroom use will be based on the ISL. For males, the the junior pilot shall use the lower, shorter urinal. For females, the junior pilot shall defer to the senior pilot in the use of roomier handicapped stall."

UPA 20-K-7-g-1. "In the event the provisions of 20-K-7-g are unavailable, the junior male pilot shall defer to the senior male pilot in the choice of the center urinal and the junior female pilot shall defer to the senior female pilot in the use of the stall with the largest toilet paper roll."

The person may own it, but that implies he must use it and not sell it to someone else.

Read posts on this forum and other forums about how some pilots would use their seniority to pick up the best trips and then "sell them" to junior pilots. They owned them due to their seniority but then sold them to the highest biddding junior pilot and thus bypassed all those more senior pilots in between.

Thus no vacation swaps between pilots. Base trades are posted for a time to prohibit the same scenario for base trades.

I have never heard or seen such a thing happening on the line. Same with trip trading. Never heard of someone selling senior trips to junior pilots.

Nonsense. Once I've been awarded a trip or vacation, it is mine. I own it and can do with it as I please. With this reasoning you would also do away with pilot to pilot trades.

I have never seen or heard of pilots doing this. However, the flight attendants used to do it quite frequently - especially on the Cairo trips with the 2 day layovers.

I don't think our UPA should have been based on flight attendant behavior.
