Maybe...but I think it was STL. They did specifically tell him not to...and then he did it anyways.

Wow - what a major integrity/judgement fail !

also heard 2 or 3 fired during training for not properly following PS travel rules to/from training… and they were each warned multiple times before being let go by management. One was using to go to LAS and another going to Mexico and Caribbean… not sure of the other.

Another stupid question:

Business casual?
Suit without the tie, khakis and dress shirt, polo shirts, etc...? What do most wear?

What's the dress attire after indoc?

okawner 06-23-2015 10:25 AM

I'd say polo or button up, no jacket, khakis or conservative jeans, and topsiders or similar.

Tony Nelson 06-23-2015 10:46 AM

Also, don't be the Jack--- fired because he couldn't put his crack pipe(cell phone) down and had to check it during class and in the middle of simulators.

Unless its Delta calling...I would take that call.

Just saw that the July 21st class has their aircraft to select from (10x320, 9x737).

Anybody seen our drop yet?

I was wondering the same thing. How are people hearing about bases they will get to choose from before class starts?

Polo shirt w/ jeans - black shoes.........easy.

unitedflyier 06-24-2015 03:22 AM

You need something smart for the first day and the last class photos. Apart from that smart jeans polo shirts are fine. Shoes or smart sneakers (no bright multi colors) are fine too.

Lots of free beer and food the first week Enjoy it before the fire hose starts.

ugleeual 06-24-2015 04:41 AM

clothing for TK is smart casual… which equates to "normal" jeans and a polo style shirt with shoes as a minimum… dressing up is dockers and a long sleeve shirt (w/wout tie) and a sport coat… but don't see many wearing that combo. New hires definitely dress up at TK more than line pilots… i've seen t-shirts, jeans and running shoes.

okawner 06-24-2015 06:49 AM

So the info packet mentioned bringing a laptop or tablet for CBTs. Anyone know of OS requirements or is it Flash-based?

CBTs work on laptops, not so much on iPads. There are computers available at TK as well so not required.

Is there a place to look to see what the aircraft drop is or is it only by email?

If you have your own iPad, you can download Puffin browser to do the CBTs.

I have no idea. I wish I did. I've seen previous classes find out and post it here. It seemed around the two week mark which we are at.

What do people use for health insurance? I am currently a Reservist - which is better, United's or Tricare?

Go with tricare. I'm currently on long term mil leave, and when I come back I'm going with tricare. I'll be living near a large base so there are plenty of providers that accept tricare, so take that into consideration.

Who does United use for dental?

Metlife is what I'm using with UAL (think its offered nationwide)… pretty reasonable and good coverage overall… have been happy so far. I'm retired AF and use Tricare Standard since it gives more options and you don't need a PCM.

More questions:

- Does United pay for uniforms, shoes, luggage, etc...?

- What do you recommend for shoes?

- What do you recommend for luggage?

1. Yes on uniforms...No on shoes....and no on luggage
2. The black kind
3. See number 2

Seriously though....Uniforms are paid for and you are on your own for shoes and luggage. Buy whatever works for you and that you can pack for 5ish days in. For shoes, were what is comfortable and is a good looking dress shoe or roper boot. For the love of all that is holy, please don't wear the black tennis shoes...ever

Firsttimeflyer 06-28-2015 06:46 PM

For luggage see what airplane you get first, if it is the 737 good luck because it will get tore up with such a small space.
If t is bus or 757 I'd go to Costco and get their carry on bag with lifetime warranty. The metal frame bags are awesome, just very heavy and with a Costco lifetime warranty, you spend less but you get amazing coverage wth Costco.

ugleeual 06-28-2015 06:52 PM

There is a company store that sells luggage at TK... They give you a 20% off coupon on day 2... You can buy some pretty nice luggage cheaper than anywhere else... So hold off until you start.

slip on dress shoes or half boots with zippers will do the trick... Don't look like a slob and wear cheap shoes or black athletic shoes!

Uniform shop will let you deduct any extra uniform items off your pay check at you need to buy... You get a winter coat, suit jacket, hat, 2 ties, 2 pants, and 4 white shirts for free... Probably want to purchase another pair of pants or two.
