Short Call

Do you get some sort of add pay on the third short call if they don't use you? Or is it on the fourth shortcall? If so, what is it?

1 hour per unused short call (3,4,and 5). Added to mpg. No matter if you aggressively pick up or assigned. After 5 they have to assign sc to continue to add to mpg.

And that there is the key. You could be assigned SC all month, and as long as they use you there is no add pay associated with it.

What is considered unused? I'm starting my 4th SC of the month this evening and haven't been assigned a trip yet (I did aggressively pick up one trip at the beginning of the month).

Unused is if they don't call with a an assignment.
Look at the contract (better yet, download the Contract Legality Guide off the ALPA website.
So far you will have 1 hour ADD PAY. If they don't use you tonight, you'll have two.

While on the subject, I don't know why, but I was under the impression that any unused short call after five, you got two hours add pay for those.

Haven't flown since 1st week in September.... :D

I've adopted a new strategy of not picking anything up and letting them SC the crap out of me. It's my only chance of breaking guarantee. I'm up to 5 unused for the month and counting.

Bad info being given out or incomplete.

You get nothing for SC #1 and #2. Short calls 3-5, you get one hour each, and it doesn't matter if you aggressively picked up or was assigned. Those all must be 'UNUSED'.

To get more add pay of 1 hour for each short call going above #5, you had to have 5 ASSIGNED unused short calls prior and each SC above #5 has to be assigned as well. So let's say you were given 5 SC's and all went unused and you aggressively picked up 2 and were assigned 3, then SC's 3-5 get one hour each of add pay. For #6 and #7, absolutely nothing. #8, you would get one hour of add pay, if #6 and #7 were both assigned (not aggressively picked up), to give you a total of 6 assigned and unused SC's. So that's why you get Paid on #8, because that is your 6th ASSIGNED SC.
If you were ASSIGNED SCs on 1-5, then your 6th SC, if assigned, would be add pay of 1 hour. Kapiche?

Hopefully that makes sense. And no, it's only one hour per, not two.

Holy Toledo, we are hiring morons. Read the contract.

The increase in MPG can be found in in 3-C-1-b.

An unused FSB also counts toward the increase in MPG if unused. In order for the FSB to be considered "used", a trip must be assigned without an intervening off duty period.

fanaticalflyer - good catch on the language, I missed that before in 3-C-1-b-(1)-(b) paragraph. It does say "...five unused SC and/or FSB assignments.....".

The "Contract Legality Guide" mentioned above can be found at the below link. A great resource to some english interpretations of the legalese in the contract.

Take the time to look at duty limits and reserve. It's not as straight forward as I thought. ALPA has a great guide (link below) and an APP you can download as well. I haven't really played with the app as of yet, just found it several days ago.
