What would you do? Staring class soon w Delta and just invited to start selection process at UAL. I live local to NYC, closer to Newark (much closer). Always wanted UAL but they never called. Is it better to turn down the process now to not burn a bridge or go through the selection process and potentially turn down the job? I know guys that burned bridges pre 9/11 and really hurt them later to try and get on with another airline. Don't want to do that. Some reasons I would chose UAL over Delta, closer base to home, more wide bodies, seems like a better contract than DAL, wife works at DAL (too many eggs in one basket?) uniforms, hotels, no training pay, no MD88.... any input? Feeling very fortunate, been waiting for UAL forever but now have an upcoming Delta class! How far out is UAL interviewing and holding classes? I will start mid Nov-early Dec with Delta. I will continue with the process as I currently don't have a bad/seniority number at a major. I wish UAL called first it would be so easy!
I started with Delta, and have a transcontinental 2-leg commute to NYC. It is tough and costs both in days away from the family, and dollars to make happen. Delta is a great company, and I’ve really enjoyed the people…other than the commute (and the maddog does have some quirks…)
I live within 2 hours of SFO. Although I’m giving up 4 months of seniority at DAL and have to go thru training again, I think QoL is going to be vastly different. Of course there is risk in switching companies; but in my calculus the potential benefits outweigh the risk
This has not been an easy decision; I think the best advice is to put yourself in a situation where you have options. Ask for, and listen to all the different points of view. Then make the decision that best fits you and your family’s goals. In my case, I’ll be starting with United in a few weeks.

I’m fortunate enough to be in this very situation. Had an interview with both Delta and United within 7 days of each other. Hired by both. Delta offered a class date this summer and United training was not available until Nov/Dec.

Never quit a job unless you have one to go to and you'll never know if you made the right choice until the day you retire.
In other words take the first job. If you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to choose between two guaranteed jobs, take the one based on current information that is the best fit.

There are two aspects of working at a major airline that completely change the nature of the job you are doing compared to other pilots at the same company.
1) How close you live to your base
2) Whether you fly domestic or international.
If your goal is time off to be with your child then 777 flying is the answer.
Our 777 fleet is set to grow significantly.

Our current CEO has proven he is relatively pro-labor and wants to grow the company.
I am biased and others here have expressed opposite opinions, but if you are fortunate enough to get an offer from UAL, then I recommend you seek out and talk to junior UAL pilots living near EWR before making a decision.
