Hey UAL folks, Delta guy here wondering about an extra flight that popped up today EWR-DEN. It's 2141 and apparently a 767.

Not sure if it's a charter or extra flight? Buddy of mine couldn't see loads for it so not certain. Would be great if there are seats open or I could snag a jumpseat. Any help or info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't know, but the 2:40 flight doesn't look terrible. Maybe just head out and see what the deal is, ferry or whatever?

Yeah might do that, just trying to figure out if waiting around for a possible direct vs a guaranteed 2 leg home is worth it. Decisions decisions.

If it's not showing up in EmployeeRes (UA's employee site) or available for ticketing on united.com it means that it's not an extra section but rather a ferry or charter.

Not true. On a ferry flight he could ride as long as he was not number 20 in line. FOM 13.20.2

I'm looking at that section. I don't see offline jumpseaters or offline non-revs mentioned on the list of approved passengers. I'd like to think a JS would be considered on its own terms and under the guise of the JS protocol but I wouldn't be surprised to get pushback in that one.

Doesn't matter in this case anyway, as the flight appears to be a positioning flight for a NFL charter and is presumably under the control of the charter department.

Even a UA pilot would have to move mountains to get authority from the charter department if that is the case.

Appreciate the info ended up magically getting in early, ran to a Southwest flight and made it home. Whew.

Ferry flights are strange animals. United operates each one as if it is the first time we have ever operated a ferry flight, and the rules seem to change just as often.

A few years ago I flew a 747 ferry ORD-SFO, and it was posted on the TV screens like a regular flight, including the gate. About 40 pax with tickets on later flights showed up trying to get on an earlier flight than they had tickets for. Unfortunately, no FAs were on board. At push time there was no activity, so we called ops to find out what the delay was, and they had never heard of us (although the fuel was boarded correctly).

I've carried jumpseaters and FA commuters on a ferry flight. Just a call to dispatch took care of it. But NO WAY it's going to happen on the ferry leg of a sports charter. Totally different animal
