Default Ord - ewr

Currently live in the Panhandle of FL but thinking about moving down towards Orlando/Tampa area and was wondering how the commute is to EWR?

I see there's 7 non-stop flights daily but how full are they? Jumpseat full? Etc...?

Reason I'm asking is because we want to stay in FL but looking for an easier commute to a domecile and still remain close to a military base (Macdill) for my Reserve job.

Thanks!

From everyone I've ever talked to, all of Florida sucks. Especially if you're junior. People trying to get to MCO are going to JAX and renting cars. TPA is a pain. South FL not much better.

That being said, it seems like nearly everyone that live in FL comes to EWR. It definitely has the most service between us, SWA, and JetBlue.

I'm an idiot...

I was looking at all direct flights out of MCO and the only two were EWR and ORD.

Wish UAL would just open a hub in the SE like Orlando or Miami.

I think you're in the wrong airline for your geo-needs. If you're that anchored to FL, I'd keep apps updated at SW and AA if I was in your situation.

I hear Houston->Miami is not a tough commute for the AA guys, so perhaps central Florida to Houston would be a sustainable option once you can hold IAH at UA. What's your current commute situation? I hope for your sake you're not currently double commuting to airline and reserve job. I don't count driving when I say commuting btw. Good luck.

Don't forget Spirit, you can list online and their jumpseat policy is pretty good

Leaving UAL is not an option, been here for about 18 months and enjoy it. I'm not necessarily anchored in FL (grew up in IA, wife from NE) but enjoy FL. We've considered DEN also to be near family. I live where my current military Reserve job is and currently double commute from VPS/PNS to DCA.

Have had a saved vacancy bid for IAH since I've joined UAL and am considering a switch to the 737 (current 320) once my seat freeze is up to get to IAH.

Just wondering what the commute is like from MCO since I could transfer Reserve jobs to Tampa and still stay in FL.

From what I hear from jr guys it's not too bad from MCO-EWR but they commute on JetBlue not UAL. I fly with a ton of sr guys that commute on UAL from MCO. They say it's a pain on us with all the FL commuters. I don't always see it when I fly to MCO out of EWR, I very rarely have anyone in the jumpseat on my flights but I only fly that trip every few months. Hope that helps.

Flew Tampa all of Sept. pretty much always had someone in the jump. Orlando didn't seem as bad. I'm an FLL-EWR guy and it's pretty easy. I've only been bumped once and that's because I tried to jump on UAL early. Had a JBLU backup.
