Short call poll

What is the latest you have been called while on SC? The 14 hr period seams lame considering even at the 13th hr you could only get halfway through preflight before you'd have to give the pax the finger. Is the company hoping for you to get to the airport early THEN extend? The way I see it, you turn into a pumpkin at 12 hrs max (16-2.5-brief-shortest flight)

You're still notifiable during that time. Call>released into rest (10 hrs)>report.

Yup. In fact, that seems to be the purpose of many SCs....10 hours to report vs 12 hours to report on a long call. After all, Q: why is there a 0100 SC when the first departure of the day is 0530? A: to cover the 0530 departure AND the 1100 &> departures. It's a backdoor shortened long call.

I have been called at the 8 hr mark.
They wanted me to do a LAX-SAN leg and overnight there.

another time I called to ask to be released at 8pm. my RAP ended at 0100 and the last flight for the day left at 2230. They said they could not release me because if they did they could not call me to info me of an assignment for the next day.

It can get very ugly on the augmented side of things. Look at the fat part of table C, 20+ hour duty days.

The SC is a tool used by the crew desk as a work-around for the 10 hour/12 hour long call reserve. Our negotiating committee should take a hard look at SC and make it a premium pay assignment. An hours pay per SC assignment and if you are used within 13 hours after being released from SC, the pilot will be paid time and a half for the trip. That will put the kee-bosh on that abuse.

Ohh, poor new hire!
Getting abused on reserve; and you thought, you'll go straight to 400 and HKG to get prostate massage. This must have been a Total disappointment!;)

We need to make fixing short call abuse a priority in the next contract. Talk to your reps and do the contract surveys.
