The SC is a tool used by the crew desk as a work-around for the 10 hour/12 hour long call reserve. Our negotiating committee should take a hard look at SC and make it a premium pay assignment. An hours pay per SC assignment and if you are used within 13 hours after being released from SC, the pilot will be paid time and a half for the trip. That will put the kee-bosh on that abuse.
And by the way. Field standby is total Bull ka-ka. Horrible. It should pay at least 50% of what you're standing by to do. Another words a 4 hour block should pay 2 hard hours add pay no matter what. A 4 hour standby has taken up to 7 hours to actually accomplish. Heck, It should really pay even money. |

We need to make fixing short call abuse a priority in the next contract. Talk to your reps and do the contract surveys.

Easy, Put the entire NC on short call for two years straight.
That oughta do it. But but but....You have a choice to not be on reserve you say? Not always the case Skippy! You are never more than one economic down turn away from having to commute reserve if you're on the bottom half of the seniority list. Don't mistake the current airline environment for the reality of what this job can become. And it happens with surprising rapidity when the axe starts to fall! |

Or ten years in a row like some of us poor slobs stuck at the bottom had to do. Just put them on regular old reserve. Then displace them out of their home base and make them commute for a couple of years on reserve.

Careful Hoss....JSled may have to exert himself on his one thousandth consecutive short call at home to answer the mail on this one. We really don't want to see him sporting his "Borat" suit he sits reserve with...

Living in base I enjoy making $$$ on short all but I can see how it sucks for commuters. They should trade making short calls voluntary and then let in base guys have more leeway (call first or something) to ensure coverage. Definitely reserve CAN be a choice but also when the music stops or a base closes.... Welcome to a long stay in reserve hell.

That doesn't explain people who voluntarily upgrade and then complain about reserve.
