Oct class

About time for the Oct new hire class to get notified...anyone yet?

Bushmaster09 09-03-2017 05:47 PM

I've been confirmed for October 23rd here. Can't wait!

jetlaggy 09-03-2017 05:51 PM

Congrats and welcome!

McBoeingBus 09-03-2017 06:46 PM

Any classes between Sep 5th and Oct 23rd? A previous thread said monthly classes. Any idea on the dates?

Not sure what info you are looking for that isnt stated above

Commando 09-04-2017 05:45 AM

Smart A**. I guess his point is that there is almost two months between classes. And for a company staffing the airline by a string and having line guys "help" to avoid an implosion, it is a little weak.

McBoeingBus 09-04-2017 07:10 AM

Thanks Commando.

Embraerpilot 09-04-2017 07:16 AM

Just found out Friday that I'm in the hiring pool. Pretty excited, just wondering if anyone know how many other people are swimming and how long they have stayed in?

Taildragger46 09-04-2017 09:43 AM

How long is it taking between Application, Interview, Class date?

Thought he was asking a sincere question instead of making a point...my bad. :D

I'm sure this would completely depend on your resume. If you're a check airman on Boeing, Airbus or MD equipment with a billion hours PIC then probably not long. If you're a Regional FO with 2000 hours SIC probably not until you get some better experience.

I know six of us who have been in the pool from 3 months to two weeks. Still patiently waiting...

Keep in mind, you're in a competitive pool. If they score out of a possible 100 points (for easy math) and the threshold to be put in the pool is 80, if you scored an 81 on the interview and those after you scored higher, they'll be called for a class before you will. There are people who've been in the pool for three years who have watched hundreds of pilots hired ahead of them. Others have only had to wait a couple weeks before getting a call for class. It just depends on how you scored and where you sit in the pool. There's no way to know either of those things, so ya just gotta wait.....

Congrats Embraer! I got the pool letter same day. When did u interview? I know of someone who has been in the pool nearly a year. Met another guy who was in less than 24 hours, and another who got a class date the day following the interview bypassing the pool altogether. Let's hope our pool time is short...

arjmjj 09-27-2017 09:43 AM

Confirmed for 23 Oct class as well. Interviewed 8 Aug, they offered job and class at interview, never got a pool letter. Just last week they called to confirm class and officially give CJO. Retiring from Marine Corps on 5 Oct (terminal) and we've already move to L'ville since wife is from here.

Did stint at CAL, left for NJA, furloughed, returned to MC as AR(FTS).

Congrats and welcome aboard. We are now in double digits for new-hires this year...

arjmjj 09-27-2017 12:26 PM

I was recalled Nov 2014 and immediately went on mil leave to get to retirement. Seems like it's a sinking ship there. Excited to be starting soon.

McBoeingBus 10-18-2017 07:18 AM

There is supposed to be a class on Monday, Oct 23rd. Any info out there for the masses?

cougar 10-18-2017 12:10 PM

4 757, 1 ANC MD11, 2 SDF MD11 per schedule.

arjmjj 10-18-2017 06:56 PM

Only 7 in the class?

ViperGuy69 10-19-2017 02:31 AM

Which aircraft at which base?

Which aircraft are based at MIA/ONT/ANC? I assume SDF has all of them...

767?

Do pilots dual-qual in 767 & 757 or just fly one or the other?

TorFCertifiable 10-19-2017 06:40 AM

Two planes, one type.

you can fly both in the same duty period. Out of one and into the other

ViperGuy69 11-16-2017 05:08 AM

Changing Domicile

As a new hire, if you want to be based in SDF but get assigned somewhere else initially, how long until you could bid for SDF?

You can switch domiciles on same airframe at the next available bid your seniority will hold it, otherwise seat locks are 18 months.

Every airframe is currently in SDF with exception of 747.

IPXUPX 12-09-2017 05:18 PM

Looks like one guy from the Oct class is no longer on the seniority list. Wonder if Delta/United called??

You’d be nuts to leave UPS for any place other than FDX. Of course there are outliers who need to live in a Delta or United domicile and that’s probably the case.

longhauler 12-11-2017 05:40 AM

Two from Oct class for Delta

IPXUPX 12-11-2017 08:05 AM

Guys who have been around the block tend to favor UPS/FDX, while the youngish fellers from regionals tend to be attracted to the bright lights of the passenger airlines.

I know one guy that got a CJO who went to Delta because his Delta class was in OCT and he'd have to wait for JAN for a class date with UPS. It was a true toss up for him, but 3 months is a long time to wait for a decision like that and he lived in LA, so he was close to both bases.
