Tired of the sanctimonious lectures on how our views are ‘nonsense’ (from another post of his) because ... well, he’s right and we’re wrong.

For the record, I’m not sure our views differ that much to begin with. I AM content here and have said so many times. I enjoy our union, I volunteer at many events and I help out newhires every chance I get.

I don’t think being cautiously optimistic, as opposed to unreservedly naive, is a bad thing.

As you know, many of us have been lied to before so I prefer to trust but verify. If someone disagrees I welcome opinions and often will debate. (Heck, I actually thought the title of this thread had the word debate in it?) If we debate maybe I’ll change their mind or maybe they’ll change mine. ..or maybe we’ll agree to disagree?
I’m not interested however in being berated by know-it-alls for not agreeing with them on absolutely everything.

He’ll learn. We all do. Some of us just take different paths to get there.

Some of us choose to live life as if the job where not the only thing in life, others not so much. Some tend to let the job define them, others not so much.

I have been on property 2+ years, if you think I don’t know who UPS is, you are sadly mistaken. If ANYONE in our 2,950 or so group thinks UPS wouldn’t screw you in a heartbeat, you are sadly mistaken. If you think UPS wouldn’t hesitate to furlough if it is what they truly want to do, you are sadly mistaken. It did not take me long to realize how UPS operates. It also did not take me long to grasp I am dispensable to UPS.

You mostly provide useful info, but while you think you may know all UPS and industry, some of us know a tad as well. UPS is harsh, cut throat. I have about 600 under me and feel completely safe. You may not agree as you think the bottom 20% is at risk. I could not disagree more. In fact, I think even the folks hired this month are totally safe. The circumstances today are much different than 2008-2010. That time was the perfect storm of events. Yes, this virus is unlike we’ve ever seen, but as it applies to us specifically, not the same for sure. We had a surplus of pilots literally overnight with age 65, 3 man airplanes and the financial meltdown. Our volume is not only holding up, but growing, albeit the mix of products is not generating the same net profit (B2B versus less profitable consumer e-commerce volume, which is growing). It may slow down at some point, but there is literally no scenario that will have us be hundreds of pilots overstaffed overnight. If, and not saying it can’t happen, it does happen, then we are ALL in world of hurt!!

So continue with you sanctimonious crap if you want, we are still colleagues and union brothers, I prefer facts than not so realistic what if scenarios. I have no idealisms of whom UPS is (or is not).

Deep breaths my friends....we’re all in this clown show together, and we gotta look out for each other.

We’re absolutely not immune from economic realities, but I personally don’t think this is a repeat of 08-09 and doubt the company would be interviewing and hiring if their crystal ball showed a depression or long/deep was nigh.

Agree it’s a good sign but WRT how UPS runs the airline, IMHO they are completely reactionary. Thus, hire til they furlough.

Anybody with insight on the next system bid? Big, small, won’t happen???

my seat lock is up and I’m thinking about 747ANC or maybe the Z.

What's your thought process? Where do you live, have you flown int'l before, do you like multiple legs or 1, what is the draw to Z or 74Y ANC?

There will have to be a bid out if they want to continue hiring. How big is up to anyone's guess, but it will foreshadow the projected new hires.

So far we have hired 85 pilots in 2020 which if I remember correctly, is about half of the new hire vacancies created by the last bid. Now I want there to be a summer bid as much as anyone, but it would have to be for captain needs. They don't need one for new hires.

How often do new system bids come out? I assume this is the time when most people are able to change a base or equipment type if they wish to?
