Question about a rejected application.

Question about a rejected application.
A friend’s son asked me for a rec. unfortunately, Instead of waiting for me to submit the Rec, He sent in his app (without my rec) and was promptly rejected. My question is, is his app gone, dumped, off the books, or is it still “on file” so as to enable me to attach my rec to his app.
What I don’t want to do is send the rec, and there is no application to attach it to.
Some background, He knew he doesn’t meet UPS mins, but is getting laid off from his regional, so he panicked and Sent his app in Hoping for the best.
Any advice from recent applicants is appreciated.

Your contact should be able to log into upsjobs.com and see their application, as well as its current status, if it shows On File it'll be there. Pilot referrals add points to an application which can move its status from On File to Active.
At least, that was my experience six years ago.
HR has told me previously a pilot referral sticks with a candidate through multiple years, even though the candidate needs to reapply each year.

That’s how it was explained to me when I inquired about a friend’s daughter and her chances of getting hired. Slim to none - similar scenario to the one you described. She barely meets the minimums so she does have an application on file however it was automatically rejected.
With thousands and thousands of new apps every week the competition is simply immense. Well over 10,000 apps on file now and the vast majority have thousands of hours of PIC time, which is the main criteria they look at. Numerous ‘heavy’ operators with tons of international time. Many have also check airman and IOE instructor experience - which add many points to a person’s overall score (wasn’t told how many).
The airline industry went from one extreme (pilot shortage) to another extreme (huge pilot unemployment) in just a few months time.. Wuhan flu - from China with love.. :-/
