Masks?

I was wondering if anyone could inform me of UPSs mask policy and culture (culture being what most people actually do).

I want to know if people are having to wear masks walking thru the hangar, in the flight deck, in the Jumpseat and in training, perticilarly ground school. Trying to find a gig that requires significantly less mask wearing than 121 PAX.

Rocket Bob 08-18-2021 12:15 PM

Kinda funny post. You’re just gonna hop over to UPS if the mask policy is right? Considering it’s a year long process, doesn’t seem to make any sense. But we wear masks. Required as a jumpseater.

It may not be your intention, but this seems more like trolling than a serious question

Actually I’m trying to get out of doing something I hate. Major quality of life problem. When I started this career I never signed up for this ****, seriously considering leaving the industry entirely, this mask **** is like the last straw.

Sounds like you will truly be happier in another line of work.

At the risk of being non-PC a maybe you need to take a hard look at yourself and find out when you turned into a pumpkin spice soy latte snowflake.
I think I found it:

Back in 06 I followed my dream, took out a massive, exorbitant loan that my parents co-signed on and spent the next ten years in debt servitude, "paying my dues" during the greatest economic downturn since the great depression. I spent two years flying Pipers in 110 degree heat with people who could hardly speak english 12 hours a day hating life, regretting the career. Then I got a little 135 gig for a year, and QOL improved although of course they didn't actually pay me anything.

And then in 2011, I FINALY got on with the regional airline five dammed years after I started. And things were fairly good for a while. I mean I grossed 23k the first year and was making payments on student loans, but I enjoyed the job, got a decent amount of time off, and traveled, staying in hostels or camping on Maui or whatever, I gotta admit, it was rather sweet......WAS
Its not the mask, it’s you.
You’re just projecting and blaming everything in sight.

CardboardCutout 08-18-2021 04:04 PM

We wear masks everywhere. We wear masks to sleep. They make us wear masks at home. They make out KIDS wear masks. You'd hate it.

I feel ya. If i could find any other job that paid like mine with the same amount of time off that didn’t require me to wear a mask, I’d take it yesterday. It bothers me how our entire country has just bent over and taken everything that’s been given to them.

Some people are pretty desperate to get here.

That plane was going to Qatar. They weren’t desperate to get here. They were desperate to leave Afghanistan.

Exactly Myfingershurt, so many of these fools are happy to mock me for having a problem with this dystopian ****, little sheep who are happy to roll over and take it seems most of the population will tollorate anything, scary really. When you get right down to it United Statsians pretend to be all about freedom, but most are just scared little sheep who do what they’re told.

If you still want to fly, you should join the Air Force and become a fighter pilot. That way you won’t have to wear a….oh wait.

At least that mask has a purpose…

TiredSoul 08-18-2021 07:53 PM

Let me be a little less dramatic and a little more helpful.
Find a job in an African country where you don’t have to wear a mask, because they don’t have any.
No ventilators or vaccines either so enjoy.

You talking about a scuba mask? Yes, you are correct. They do the same thing.

This mask stuff is a big sick joke, MAYBE it was needed a year ago, but now everyone who wants a vaccine has gotten one, and if you’re vaccinated you’re unlikely to have major problems even if you get the virus. And if someone doesn’t want the vaccine, let em roll the dice, I don’t care.

this career is a big sick joke, paying student loans, working long hours for ten years was a joke, flying for a regional that demands you spend your entire summer flying to nowhere towns is a big joke, paying $90 a year for an account to apply for a job every year is a big joke, and having to wear a miserable, suffocating, itchy muzzle is a big joke. I fundamentally regret this career, flying is fine, everything else is outrageous and unreasonable.

BoilerUP 08-19-2021 08:59 AM

Life is too short to be miserable.

There's 10M+ open jobs across the United States, perhaps you can find one more suitable than 121 flying seems to be.

Looks like we have plenty of nuts on APC that love wearing masks. Plenty of idiots seem like they'd be happy wearing masks forever, it makes them feel good and virtuous to wear it. yOu CaN NeVeR bee tOO SaFe!!!!111

Yes, I am vaccinated and wear the mask when required. Do I like any of this? No. Some people sure seem to.

That is not the feeling of the majority of UPS pilots, I assure you. You get the usual bunch of idiotic blowhoards on social media like this. With that said we follow the rules at work, and UPS makes those rules based on Federal government regulations and recommendations. Be sure to vote in the next federal election and carefully research the positions of the candidates.

Yes, it is is better to work in freight than passenger during this time.

As opposed to the mask that deprives you of fresh air and oxygen at sea level? Acts as a cesspool of bacteria, fungi and other various micro pollutants gathered from the bottom of your pocket, bathrooms, dirty recliners, etc.. all while literally doing nothing to prevent infection from covid… ok buddy

Unless you’re walking around in a respirator or changing your N95 every 30-60 minutes, save the theatrics.

CardboardCutout 08-19-2021 08:08 PM

Yeah, anyway, you have to wear the Mask Of Tyranny and pretty soon you'll have to get the Gates 5G "vaccine" to work at UPS. I'm not really supposed to talk about it, but you're also required to worship at the altar of Karl Marx and poop on a Bible to pass Initial. I just think you should know what you're getting in to. Woolvoreinz!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are making career decisions based on masking, well, good luck to you sir, you definitely need to be in another line of work.

Well….you’re already wrong with the oxygen deprivation. A N95 mask does a couple of things, reducing the oxygen concentration of the air is not one of them.
Any other Facebook Science bits of wisdom?

“reducing the oxygen concentration of the air“ of course it doesn’t change the molecular make up of the air but it’s a hella lot harder to breath. Put one on and go for a jog.

Not technically correct - usually. “Air” is a mixture with dry air having generally fixed amounts of N2,O2, Ar, and trace gases. But exhaled air has water vapor that is generally (that is, other than in Shreveport) higher than the ambient air as well as a slightly increased CO2. To the extent any mask has dead space that causes you to rebreathe expired air, the increased humidity and CO2 does indeed slightly reduce the concentration of oxygen in the air mixture you inhale.

A mask has (virtually) no “dead” space.
Medical staff and first responders wear N95’s all day long and there is no evidence of a reduction in blood oxygen saturation.
Pure unadulterated nonsense.

Busman 08-20-2021 08:32 PM

No one likes the mask but we are required to wear them, I certainly wouldn’t plan my career around masks

C17B74 08-20-2021 08:45 PM

Sheep a plenty, Sheepdogs time to test your metal but not really. Just think if this were some kind of alternate Ebola or some other kind of high percentage death rate virus or disease if you will. I myself am thankful that it wasn’t. It has no doubt taken its toll in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But it is now the world we live in and travel thru so if you want to be immune then be truly off grid or head to Alaska like “Life Below Zero.” While we ourselves may not be the super-spreaders (Don’t ask Australia as they think you are if you have a CPAP) the bodies in your pressurized tuna can most definitely are. I myself prolonged the injection for my own reasons until this month after I saw France cave (nothing new, but every country probably will). United, UPS new hires, it’s trickling thru our systems. It’s not like I haven’t been injected with a bunch of garbage by the government and we would like to live forever (well most of us for a bit after retirement), but it’s no big secret that no one does.

If anyone hears anything about being chipped, then let a bud know. Granted, it’s not like every single one of us isn’t walking around with a tracker listening device, Alexa in your HOME, tablet, etc. and to think the brilliance of it all having us pay for it and for the latest and greatest tech we can get our fat fingers on. Shots were free, but will the 3rd or 4th be… just pondering the end game and where did the flu go… eh…

CardboardCutout 08-21-2021 09:41 AM

So...you acknowledge that THEY know everything they'd ever care to about you, but you still worry that THEY are chipping you? With a vaccine? Like through a syringe?

That’s the idea apparently. So do they give you a chip on the 1st dose or 2nd dose? Or both? And if you get 2 chips, do they combine in your body like Voltron to form a supercomputer for internal surveillance?
