July new hire class

Congrats and welcome to Brown

Anyone with a CJO for a heavy class in JULY?

ScottUSAF 03-21-2022 01:26 PM

I was wondering this too. I'm not certain if any heavy CJOs have even gone out for June.

About how long did it take you guys from the initial phone screening to get the hogan invite?

Got the call on a Saturday, was told to expect an email within a week. Got the email following Monday and finish the Hogan by that Friday.

Less than 24 hours for the hogan invite was my experience.

Recliner 03-23-2022 08:13 AM

Have CJOs ever been sent out this far in advance?

I have no idea, but I just wrapped up CQ and they are going to continue to hire as fast as they can cram guys through training. We should set a record for most hires since at least 2014, maybe since 94.

Sounds like Atlanta finally got the memo

From a pure numbers perspective, they’re going to have to hire lots of right seaters now if they want to keep flying jets. In the next couple of years a huge chunk of the training center capacity will be needed to move folks over to the left seat. Mandatory retirement line takes a sharp turn up starting next year. Those are just the ones who HAVE to retire, and we’ve been WAY exceeding that number for a while. Eventually they will have to fix the staffing (some; not sure we’ll ever get to the point where trip trades aren’t denied for “Insufficient Reserve Coverage”, but JA-o-Rama will only carry the company so far in terms of having a qualified warm body on board to sign the flight release). On the other hand, Teamster and IPA contracts will be negotiated around the same relative timeframe, which opens an entire alternate universe of possibilities.

Maybe. We’ll see.

Certainly a lot of right seat hiring needs to happen now because most of the training center capacity will likely need to be used to move folks to the left seat in the next couple of years if they want to keep flying jets. Mandatory age-65 retirements start going through the roof starting next year, and we’ve been well exceeding mandatory retirement numbers for a while. On the other hand, Teamster and IPA contracts will be negotiated around the same timeframe, opening up an alternate universe of possibilities (bad, and maybe good, depending on your perspective).

Question is will the uptick in mandatory retirements be offset by a decrease in early retirements

Mostly agreed. But isn't it just a matter of how the retirements are "peanut butter spread" over a rolling 5-year window (age 60 UPS retirement eligibility vs FAA age 65 mandatory retirement; granted some are exercising the option to retire before 60 and wait to collect retirement pay)? Some will hang on to see if they can make it to the next contract, but for a number of reasons, I suspect many won't or can't.

In any case, to get back on topic: so happy to see all these folks added to the seniority list! Its great!

Call after interview?

Did my last interview this week. What’s the average to get a CJO? I gave them 2 week availability to quit from my current employer.

No hard and fast answer for that unfortunately. In other news, supposedly the pool is no longer a thing. I have no idea what that means for anyone who was in it that hasn’t been called for a class yet. Treat all of the above with a grain of salt. They are rumors out of management types in the training center who are not always the best informed.

Daramgoz 03-26-2022 10:03 AM

Greatly appreciate your response! Hopefully I’ll get news soon :) cheers

A single data point/experience here but…March interview, one week to the day later, received CJO and class date via phone call. Next day received an overnight delivery with paperwork and an email with remainder of paperwork including a letter confirming class date. Late April availability.

Daramgoz 03-28-2022 05:54 AM

Thanks for the insight. I’ll sit patiently and wait. Hopefully this week is good news!

July new hire class

I got the phone resume review 31 Jan, Hogan email early the following morning. Finished it Thursday, 3 Feb, and got the call to set up an interview on 9 Feb. Interviewed 24 Feb w/July availability, got the CJO for the 12 July light class on 25 March.

Any of you fine Aviators completed your pre requisite requirements and clearances and received an FJO as yet?

KansasBuffalo 04-18-2022 08:58 AM

I completed my on boarding prerequisites last week, but have yet to hear anything from them.

FlyFast52 04-18-2022 09:52 AM

I think I received the FJO? I completed all the PRIA stuff over a month ago and took the drug screening the week after. Last week I received a request to fill out the W-2 info and signed what looked like a full job offer.

Yes, this is what I did too. Is that considered the FJO?

You’ll more likely get an email with a finalization statement and an attached letter with the FJO letter, similar to the below:

”Your clearance process has finalized and you are now officially set to attend the UPS First Officer Training on [ Date ].

Please refer back to your original offer letter regarding class details and hotel reservation information.”

Ok trying to align myself with you guys. Did the PRIA forms etc, drug screening, then received a message to complete the online application on hr.manager. Went back to the site, and there were a bunch of additional items to complete in the "Onboarding section" including W-4 stuff and direct deposit info. Is this what you are referring to or did you physically sign and complete some other forms?

Ok, thanks for the response. Hoping for a smooth transition over. See you in the class!

405RHINOBALL 04-18-2022 05:11 PM

The FJO will be unmistakable, it will say something like “Congratulations! Your background check process has been successfully completed and you are cleared to attend training.” The onboarding stuff is separate from that and routine post CJO. Guys in my class had a huge range in when they received the FJO, some guys got it months out, some a few days out from class. Prior employers are statutorily allowed 30 days to respond to a PRIA request, and some are better than others at timely replies apparently.

Thanks for that reply, that's valuable information there. My current employer is international and heaven knows if/when they will reply.

I got my FJO two days before class started. Lost me my vacation pay from the last shop. Don't panic, it'll get there.

KansasBuffalo 04-18-2022 08:06 PM

Good, I'm on the same page as y'all. Is that all for the paperwork requirements until class starts?
