The UPS window is open

For those that haven't heard, the window is open for the second time this year. Here's the problem a friend of mine is having. He applied in January and pretty quickly got a thanks but no thanks or something similar. His application went right to inactive.

Since January he's improved his qualifications quite a bit with a 747 type rating, and time at a 121 carrier.

He went to reapply and things were going well until it asked, "have you applied earlier this year?" He said yes, and immediately got a screen saying we already have your stuff in the system, no need to reapply. We'll they do, but they don't. How can you get around this to show increased qualifications such as I mentioned, new jobs, check airmen letters, etc.?

UPS Pilot Application Window Now Open

UPS issued the following information on pilot applications in today's Chief Pilot Information Line:

UPS is, once again, now accepting applications for First Officer positions at the UPSjobs.com website. The projected close date is around Aug. 14.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

• Hold a current unrestricted ATP certificate with an airplane category multi-engine class rating and English proficiency endorsement

• Hold a current FAA first class medical certificate

• Hold an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Permit

• Hold a valid passport

• Have authorization to work in the United States

• Have a minimum of 1500 hours of total fixed-wing pilot time

• Minimum of 1,000 Pilot in Command (PIC) hours in fixed-wing jet and/or fixed-wing multi-engine turboprop per 14 CFR 1.1.

*UPS will allow military candidates to add a plus (.3) per sortie factor to flight time.

If you know of any dedicated aviation professionals with these qualifications, please encourage them to apply at UPSjobs.com .

Would a rec submitted during the last window carry over if you change your email?

I believe this can be easily explained during the interview process. I would definitely start over with a new email address. I seriously doubt the question comes up if you applied twice this year should they be selected to further in the process. Worth a shot for sure

No, it’s tied to the email address. Your buddy would have to redo it using the new email address.

160to4 07-16-2022 05:31 AM

Even the guys in operations management don’t know the way the HR algorithms work for pilot recruitment. Use a new email address and get your buddy to put in a new rec

I’ve never seen a company make it so hard for people to just submit an application. Hopefully UPS eventually scraps this HR system in the future. There are likely many highly qualified professionals being left out in the cold because they can’t even get an application to submit.

If this sort of thing drives you crazy think long and hard about accepting the job. It's a great place to be in a lot of ways, but this kind of thing is the water in which you will swim.

Just like first year pay. How bad do you want to work here?

Which airline has an easy application process? Have you seen airlineapps???

NewSheriff 07-16-2022 08:17 AM

After the Drivers Licence debacle and then app placed inactive, the window opens again. So trying to create new profile with diff email and system seems to know that I am already registered and won't let me... Any ideas?

Pilot Credentials beats everything, apply for one job in two different places…sigh

Well I already work here but thanks. Point is, the HR platform is riddled with technical glitches and being able to just fill out an application shouldn’t depend on whether the HR website is in a good mood that day or not. All the people getting booted out this application window for no reason is case in point.

You must have missed FedEx switching from Pilot Credentials to their own in house app. Ugh.

MCJdrvr 07-16-2022 05:18 PM

My bud is filling out his app now and he has a block at the top of the screen that says to schedule an appointment when his app is complete. Anyone else see that?

airplanes 07-16-2022 05:38 PM

I remember seeing that in the window earlier this year. It went away after the app was completed.

Odb003 07-16-2022 08:42 PM

Printable application

Stupid question is there a way to get the printable application off the website similar to the southwest app and airline app? Would like to send to a buddy to review it?

I went in for the first time and answered all the questions yes because I meet qualifications. The only one I checked no was had I applied in 2022 ( I haven’t) Screen immediately said you don’t qualify….WTF, so I changed it to yes ( thinking maybe the question meant are you applying in 2022 instead of have you already applied.) within 10 minutes I received the immediate thanks but no thanks. I’m Baffled.

5000 hrs, 4 types including 767/757, 2 check airman letters, APD, airline instructor and well over 1000 TPIC, with over 1000 121 and I can’t even get past the initial qualifications questions.

Anyone have any ideas?

Riverside 07-17-2022 07:44 AM

Don't feel bad. I got a buddy with 7K TT, 2K TPIC, and 4 years on the 74 and his app got rejected.

I never even got past the min qualifications stage to fill out the app……go figure. I must have screwed something up in the process….

It does make you wonder how many outstanding candidates UPS misses out on because of a computer program……

Apply to purple

flyguy23 07-17-2022 10:07 AM

Wow, are there any stories of people successfully applying? Starting to sound like a significant glitch.

Dude, Our system is just broken and an embarrassment for the pilot group. I have talked to IPA and management alike. All say that it needs to be overhauled.
We (IPA) wish we had some input into the process.

What does that mean, "return the original email on you profile"?
Be very careful about lying or stretching the truth to these people.

.

I got the message saying they can’t schedule me for any testing as well but did receive a email saying they have my application.

I wasn’t even trying to final submitt my application, the last thing I needed to do was upload my resume which I did then it automatically closes my application for editing. I figured I would at least have a “submit for review” button

Log back in to see if your app is "active" or "inactive" or "on file" -- either "inactive" or "on file" means you can't update your application.

I got a TBNT right away and my app went inactive (like you, I was surprised that I couldn't do a final edit of my app -- the system just submitted it). However, I got a recommendation which drove my app back to "active."

Once it's active (either right off the bat, or with a rec, or perhaps by attending a job fair) you are able to make updates. From there, keep updating until it goes locked. That's a good sign.

I hope that helps.

MClarry 12-04-2022 08:58 AM

After many months of my application being “inactive” it recently went “active” how long have people waited from going active to a phone call for a interview?
