New system bid

About that time of year to start speculating when the next system bid will be…napkin math says they could run out of new hire slots by next month.

AKFishOn 09-11-2022 06:21 PM

My math shows not enough new-hire spots left from last system bid to cover 3/4 Oct classes, unless those classes are much smaller. I predict next system bid announced this Friday or next Monday to close in time for 3 Oct class.

Precontact 09-11-2022 06:24 PM

MD11 realignment bid should be forthcoming.

Prob too soon for that

Whalehunter 09-11-2022 06:36 PM

Unless there is big movement, I doubt the 74 SDF will be big. Maybe MIA will have a few spots for the 76.

Id wager that begins with the Spring system bid.

Flybynight101 09-12-2022 02:17 AM

I was told by a van driver that they have enough vacancies for one more class. I’m curious myself how accurate their info was.

Supposedly they start parking some shortly after peak.

Tons of rumors in all directions currently.

Gotta be soon

According to the union, they still have enough for one more class if it’s a bit smaller than what we’ve seen. We’ll see.

Any rumors of an md11 displacement bid before any system bids?

probably will find out next year.

Noob here. Any idea as to when a new bid will come out? TIA

Sometime in the future, probably, if they get to it. No way to know for sure. Supposedly, they can probably hire a November class before running out of vacancies. My guess range is late October to late November. Possibly sooner, or possibly in a few years if they decide to let the airline shrink due to the poor economy.

same bid to upgrade and change AC as well.

Section Eight 11-01-2022 09:26 AM

Van driver said bid could be out as early as Friday, but agree it should be out before the end of the year😎

Should a realignment occur please reach out to your mentor (or the union) if you’re in the bottom 10% of a fleet (plus or minus) on how these bids work. It’s awfully confusing and you can unknowingly realign yourself.

carry on…..

Flybynight101 11-03-2022 11:18 AM

Company said “a Friday” but apparently it’s a mystery and when it doesn’t come out tomorrow…

jetlaggy 11-03-2022 11:24 AM

You would think it would have to be out by next Friday to close in time for the Dec classes.

flyguy23 11-03-2022 11:40 AM

Just about every person I’ve come across this week thinks the bid will be out tomorrow. Given that, I fully expect there to be nothing.

Heard is might not be until January, waiting on ATL.

Whalehunter 11-07-2022 11:58 AM

Probably waiting for the remaining dash 8 to come on property.....

Well, our last official 747-8F has been on property for a while, you may be alluding to the 2 possible/inconclusive planes we are eyeing from Qatar Airways.

skek 11-08-2022 06:23 AM

There are about 19 new hires in the class that just started. I wouldn’t expect any bigger classes than that for the rest of the year.

so what does that bring us to for new hires in calendar year 2022? 450+ was being touted not so long ago and math in public is beyond this public school product.

jetlaggy 11-08-2022 11:07 AM

IPA website says 358 as of couple weeks ago. I never heard 450+

According to the latest seniority list, we’ve hired 388 this year, not counting this weeks class. This also does not account for any new hire turnover, which has been a thing from what I’ve heard. So actual hiring numbers are probably closer to 400.

With FDX parking planes and the lingering rumor of the parking of our MD P&W's, ATL is trying to figure out lift requirements for 2023. So a Vacancy/Realighment Bid may be weeks away. FDX just stopped 23 domestic and 9 Intl. routes.

Another thing to consider is that FedEx was parking planes before Covid and my friend there said things a actually back to pre Covid numbers. I would not be surprised though to see a drastic MD reduction here next year. The recession is going to get much worse next year and you will probably see some of those effects here. Hope I’m wrong.

Joachim 11-09-2022 03:50 PM

My guess is that we’re going to replace MDs with 767s one for one as the lift requirements decreases post pandemic. Not as exciting as A350’s or 777x I know.

Thats what I would put money on, but I hope you’re wrong.

The more airframes the better...any size

Totally agree, that’s my vote like everyone else’s at any outfit. If it’s just a replacement schedule as mentioned before than at least they are being replaced vs a loss. Maybe a loss in lift capability but still better than nothing coming on line. Soft landings tend to be preferred.

Net zero is fine. From our perspective an airframe is an airframe, regardless who much it can carry, especially since the MD is doing very little international.

Flybynight101 11-10-2022 02:57 PM

The 76 can replace the MD 1:1 on probably 80-90% of our domestic flights. International is a different story. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Then let em use 2 767s…I can’t see the downside to that. 😉
