Default Mute button

Not sure if its brand new.. but I just noticed a mute button on the B&G threads. So you dont have to unfollow a whole topic...looks like you can just kill a thread once it goes off the rails. If so its a good start and welcome change.

Now just add the ability to mute all retired folks and the B&G will become a place I'd go hangout for once...until then....cesspool on nonsense.

Retired folks have certainly earned the right to post and their opinions are invaluable. Lest not the lessons of the past be forgotten.

Many of the posts from the retired guys are great, and I agree that the tribal knowledge factor is significant. Some of them, on the other hand, just spew spittle-flecked political nonsense and "stir the pot". Having a mute button available on an individual thread level seems like at least real progress towards improving the signal-to-noise ratio and bringing more of the membership into the conversation. Good move all around, imho.

We are also missing out on tribal knowledge from current pilots that stay away due to the boorish behavior of some of the folks on there. That behavior isn’t limited to retirees, of course. But if we could mute individuals, that would make it a more tolerable place for the masses.

It just gets so uncivilized at times, don’t blame people for shying away.

“It is better to keep one's mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to hyperpost on the B&G and remove all doubt.”

Couldn’t agree more. There are some outstanding retired posters there that everyone should listen to. DM comes to mind. But then you’ve got others who love to preach unity but spew nothing but divisive nonsense & are all too willing to pick fights with guys who, however caustic they may be, are actually in the trenches defending the contract right now. Mute button is welcome but so would be a modicum of sense amongst all posters as to what is appropriate discourse amongst a group of supposed professionals.
