2016 UPS System Bid

The great announcement of the new year is upon us. The BIG system bid is here, The deck chairs on the Titanic are being rearranged, again.

To the 2014-15 new hires, welcome to UPS, and a new fleet in the first year.

A total of 13 Captains are being realigned: -6 SDF M1F CPTs, -2 ANC M1F CPTs and -5 ANC 74Y CPTs. A total of 13 new, original Captain vacancies are being offered: +5 SDF A30 CPTs and +8 ONT 757 CPTs.

A total of 14 First Officers are being realigned: -5 SDF M1F FOs, -6 ANC M1F FOs and -3 ANC 74Y FOs. A total of 14 new, original First Officer vacancies are being offered: +3 SDF 757 FOs, +4 SDFZ 757 FOs and +7 ONT 757 FOs

While it is entirely possible that a follow-on displacements will become unnecessary ... I'd still suggest keeping that application current and up-to-date at the majors.

:D

One that pays co-pilots over $200K a year. Yeah, it's a terrible place to work.

where a copilot with ten year seniority can be furloughed rather quickly. at other places he/she would be a captain or close to it.....making more than 200k......and no chance of a furlough....

Haha, right.

Too old, well past V1.

The recommendation was to 2014-15 new hires who will be subjected to the continuous cycle of realignment/displacement and training. And its certainly a good idea to consider ALL options that may present themselves to someone who has been here less than 3 years. To do otherwise would be foolish.

200K/yr for first officers does little good if you're furloughed. Been there, done that (not at UPS), and it's not much consolation when you're on the street.

I'd rather be making $200K and get furloughed than making way less at some other major and get furloughed.

I think most people would like to know there will be large numbers of people hired after them, and large numbers of people retiring---so they don't have to worry about being furloughed. Since some of the majors (who are also paying well) are starting to hire significantly, it is good advice to consider others, for job security.

Or bury your head in the sand and act like a UPS job is the gold ring of aviation.

There are VERY different career levels at UPS depending on when one was hired. Nothing new or earth shattering about that. But the failure to recognize that a 1988 hire, a 1995 hire, a 2001 hire, a 2008 hire and a 2015 hire will achieve very different levels of compensation, benefits and job security is foolish.
