Application question
Just a question that I'm hoping someone who has been successful with their application can answer. Under Flight Crew Application Supplement there is a section to list your licenses. I have an ATP MEL and Commercial Privileges SEL. Do I need to select the YES box for a Commercial License? I don't have a separate certificate number for that. Also, since I have the ATP do I still need to check the box for instrument rating? I just want to make sure I'm crossing my T's and dotting lowercase j's.

Don't try and over think this. |

I was literally just talking to a DPE about this stuff yesterday. My license says exactly what the OP stated. The DPE I was talking to told me that if you have an ATP that it's implied that you have an instrument rating as an ATP due to the nature of the ATP check ride.

Yes you have a commercial. Same certificate number as your ATP. Yes you have an instrument rating. |
so I just redid my application for 2017 and immediately got the thanks but you're not selected for additional testing at this time response. Does that mean I'm already out of the running based on something i did/didnt have in my online app or is that a standard response until HR would actually review my app...?

references?
Is there a place on the app for on ups recommendations or do they even wish to have them? I.e. LCA from current employer

Did anyone here finish an app and see something different? |

I've gotten this every time. I figured (was hoping) this was just a standard response. Something everyone saw after finishing their app.
Did anyone here finish an app and see something different? Nope, still have a thumbs up |

For those getting the 'no further testing' message...what is your application status - On File, Active, or Inactive?
|
FWIW, when I applied this year (2017) for the first time my app is "Active" instead of "On File". A noteable difference was after hitting submit, I didn't receive the standard TBNT as with previous applications. Instead, this time I was presented a message saying my application will remain open for editing until a meeting is scheduled.... as for what that means exactly -- no clue. Good luck, everyone!
|
Both of mine have thumbs up and show "on file"....I'm clean as a whistle. Shouldn't be anything disqualifying for me either.

Guys...
Just to confirm.... If your 2016 app says "active" in green, would that still require another app fill out in 2017? I'm guessing yes, but would like to confirm if anyone is in the know. Thanks. K |
UPS requires a new app from everyone each year. No exceptions. The guys that just started class on the 3rd had to fill out 2017 apps even though they were already hired.
|
Thanks Robxjt27!

Thumbs up means it's complete. Mine has that and On File. I didn't see anything you could put that would disqualify it didn't seem to ask for that much details.
|
It seems we have reached the conclusion that no one knows the secret sauce. Who knows what means what. Best of luck to all you gents and may the phone calls come quickly....
|
I'm not sure what would disqualify me either although I know that I screwed up the response on hours in last 24 months I think I put my hours for the last 12...also didn't check yes for commercial as well as ATP. I think the difference is guys that get Hogan invites don't get the not selected for testing at this time response.

I also never got an email about my app expiring/needing to do a new one that many others got, so maybe they just don't want to talk to me. ;) |
Apps from last year and from this week both say On File with the green thumbs up. Got the instant "no further testing" message this time, also.
Mil fighter background with lower total time, but well over 1000 TPIC, masters, IP time, ATP and a type rating, no black marks on the 'ol record. FWIW, over on the RST UPS page on Facebook lots of people with quals much stronger than mine are reporting the same instant TBNT. The guy who runs it said he'd try to get more info and make sure it isn't another HR glitch, since it seems strange so many extremely qualified candidates would get instantly rejected. |

While I haven't received the message(s), as referenced in my post above yours, there are guys in RST with a lot more time/quals than me that got the "No further testing" message. Hope it's just a glitch for everyone. |

There are RST UPS, Delta, and United Facebook pages that I know of. ;) |
I'm sorry if this is a silly question or I'm reading too much into it, but I have another application question..... under section 1 of the flight crew application supplement there is a Flight Engineer Written section. In that same section there is a box for solo date. Are they wanting the date you soloed before getting your Private or is this something that pertains strictly to FEs that I don't know about?
|
The same thought crossed my mind; however, if you look at the dividing lines that separate each section, it seems like this relates to FE.
That was my best guess anyways. |

How do you solo as an FE? I have a full FE turbojet certificate - but don't think the "solo" they asked referred to that. Yes, the spacing of the question does seem to make it look like it...but it didn't make any sense to me. I put the date of my first solo (before my private). Another one of the mysteries of the UPS application process.

It means you were not selected for further screening. "On file" means your application is in the system and they know about you.

What does "active" mean compared to "on file"?

Yea but is there anyway to know exactly the reason for not being selected.
While you certainly are qualified, there are THOUSANDS of other applications that are just as if not more qualified. The way I understand it (and I could be wrong) is a computer algorithm scores each application and racks/stacks them all; the company says "Anything with a score X or higher we're Actively looking at now, anything below X is On File for further consideration". Basically, Active is the short stack and On File is the big stack. Pilot referrals and talking to HR at job fairs are two ways a candidate can change their status from On File to Active; another way may be for the company to lower the minimum application score they are actively looking at. While this may sound derisive toward candidates and I certainly don't intend it to be...perhaps not terribly unlike Delta's Tier 1 and Tier 2 candidate system. Again. I'm not 'in the know' and could be wrong, but this is an educated WAG based on observation...my app was originally On File before going Active and me entering the interview process. |

Your TT is on the low side for a civilian and you have no heavy time. If you want a job at UPS, get a job at Atlas and get a 747 type. UPS hires lots and lots of Atlas dudes.
Who knows, maybe I placed a period or comma in the wrong spot somewhere on the app.... that'd be my luck  |
I'm also a little over 6000tt with 2300 in the 777 at EK. Got the tbnt as well. Too bad the application only asks about 121/135 time.
