Many (and I mean many) novel designs were tried due to WWII between 1940-5, and in Cold Year Era times 1945-1965. A design has to help win a war in the short term, else prove economical in the longterm to get serious atttention and go into production. To this day, we have novel aircraft designs made available such as this one Bell Tiltrotor for example. But how many of these sort of aircraft are really useful to more than a few people? We can make flying saucer, or a ground effect aircraft, or a subspace missile... man is amazingly resourceful.

My idea for innovation is something a college professor gave me- Robert J.Englar thought airlines should go to closed-circulation-wings (CCW) on airliners. The CCW wing eliminates any need for flaps or slats. It allows shortfield landings and takeoffs and generally makes airliners more useful. CCW. His wings have high lift coefficients derived from bleed air.

CCW is not new as it has been around since the 1950s. But it could reduce the cost of airline operations by making complicated flaps and slats obsolescent in new aircraft, and aircraft would be able to land and take-off in short distances.

Man is smart enough to invent aircraft to do incredible things. But what is worth spending the time and money on, is the question.
