B-29 Nose

Anybody recognize this plane? I'll give you a hint: it's currently on display in the Udvar-Hazy Annex of the Air & Space Museum.

Did they pull her out of the main hall? When I was there right after it opened she was front and center, complete with glass panels to keep the moron protesters from throwing paint on it.

509th Composite Group

Enola Gay. I think Bock's Car is in the AF museum, WPAFB.

Years and years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the Paul Garber restoration facility. These photos were taken during the restoration of the Enola Gay, prior to her being put on display at Dulles.

Right on, cool pics.

I got to fuel FiFi a couple years ago, that airplane is massive.

1) who was the pilot?
2) what was the name of his B-17 that he flew prior to the B-29?
3) what is the significance of the name?
4) what is the name of his grandson and what does he fly?

3 out of 4

1. Paul Tibbets, who just recently died.

2. Don't know.

3. Enola Gay is either his Mother, or Grandmother's name. "Enola" is "Alone" spelled backwards.

4. His son is, I think LtCol Paul Tibbets the 3rd, and is the Squadron Commander of the B-2 Squadron at Whiteman. The Squadron has the same designation (507th BS?) as the original squadron that Tibbets was in for the Hiroshima drop.
