Is it not true that the picture was not taken from another F-16? Hopefully, D-Model. If it is not true that the picture wasn't being taken by another viper, then was the aircraft holding short not dash-2 or another flight?
Cliff

P.S. Sorry, nothing to do today but post on APC.

It doesn't matter if it was another flight. If he was following the flight ahead, he'd still be staggered on the taxi out.

I only take a camera when I fly in the back of a D model (as far as you know :)). I was bored and tagged along on a flight this week. Lead was the D model and the two ship was staggered holding short. Centerlines don't apply to us - unless its dark.

SLOP is used whenever you're worried about sucking up that FOD and then standing tall in front of the man explaining why you just caused a Class C mishap :(

[quote=Cliffy170;459761]Pretty standard with only one airplane?

Do you land on your half of the runway, single-ship, as well?
Cliffy -

Often. We have a nice carrier box all painted on the left side of the runway and even lite at night for that exact purpose. You don't? Now when I'm ready to full stop I take it to centerline.

Anyway - it looks to me that he might have been -2 of a formation and he was waiting for his lead to get into position. I wouldn't wait that long but you never know.

Or - maybe he was a single ship taking off after a flight of two. I don't know what your SOPs read. My current is 800' centerline. Most places I've flown have been 1,000' centerline or 500' staggered.

You're right on with the first statement. Don't think Waldo's chauffer was waiting for #2. Single-ship Rolling T/O's are "en vogue" these days. Instead of lining up in formation on the runway, running up the engines, and launching, lead may be cleared onto hold (in a D-model in this case with a photo-taking Waldoo11in the backseat) while the rest of the 2/4-ship holds short in the appropriate off-centerline position after a staggered taxi out.

In a combat zone (ie Balad), formation t/o isn't the big one, so this is a quicker way to get your 2-ship airborne. Plus, some safety pogue said running up a 4-ship at EOR has higher probability of causing a nicked blade via FOD ingestion.

OK, horse is really dead now...
