Looks like a hook from a F-15......right?
AZ - would you like me to get you a picture of a REAL tailhook?

Funny, I've seen F-15s use their tailhook more than F-18s.

Default A Manly Hook

Not bad, but the F-4's Hook is still the biggest and heaviest I've ever seen.

We had one in our squadron bar...bent from a jet that landed with a stuck-up spoiler on the right wing; more of a controlled crash...touched down at 220 knots. Took an approach-end cable that held (!)

It three of the biggest guys in the squadron to lift it. I think it weighed 250-300 lbs.

Pilotpip -

That would not be a good thing since I believe that they only use their hooks for aborted takeoffs (long field arrestments) or emergency landings (such as lost of hyds for short field arrestments).
Can any F-15 guys verify this? This is what a F-15E pilot told me a long time ago when I questioned him about his hook. Anyways Pilotpip - if you haven't seen Hornets use their hooks much - then you need to get yourself on a tour of a carrier or invited on a Tiger Cruise. Good times!

Here is one for you AZFlyer

Amen.....I've got one off the T-2C from my first CQ. I've been carrying it around for quite a few years now. Someday - maybe it will be hanging over my bar There was a no-flap landing that led to a high spped short field arrestment in Lemoore quite some time ago. Luckily when it separated it didn't jerk the aircraft around and all ended up on a good note. He engaged the E-28 at over 220 kts too (max engagement 175 kts).
