Are most of your shots off a tripod, or does it just depend on what, when, and where?

Yes I use a huge Gitzo graphite tripod with Wimberley gimbal head... It helps attract the police when I am around the airport and as much as I hate for them to visit me, it does helps to have some security..so actually it's a good thing.

The 747 pic at NRT with the red beacon was a hand held 600mm f4 shooting thru a small hole in the fence... generally I use the tripod for the 14lb camera/lens combo.... the tripod and head is about $1,200 which is beyond being sensible but it floats the lens very well.....
