Default Dutch Harbor

I'm sure you've heard of it.

My first extended over water trip as a crewmember. Departed Bethel.

These guys own Dutch now. We were the first aircraft on the ground and within 10 minutes there were 6 PenAir's there.

340 on the roll.

DC6 with 19,000lbs of Cod Milt on it. Fish sperm is yummy.

Grumman Gooses

PenAir seems very territorial about their Dutch operations. They refer to the runway as the "deck" and report departures as "launches" instead of takeoffs. Its a little amusing considering how long it is at about 4,000 feet.

Yup, we were flying as Douglas 86C. That was a very cold morning in Bethel. It was -47F with the wind chill and the poor FE had to put 3,000 gallons on the airplane.

Yeah, but at least it was straight down the runway! I never left the cockpit the entire time on the ground.

What's he doing on the chevrons in the last one? The "deck" a little too short for that 340?

What would it take to get onboard with Pen Air? Aside from lots of Alaska time and an inside reference

That Metroliner behind the nosewheel looks like old Air Midwest paint. Can you read the N number in the original pic?
