The trusty ol' Mark II or III. Great fun.

The Ruger MK series has been in production since 1949. Used by a few branches of the Military, technical and parts support is very good. If you want to learn how to shoot a pistol, this is one of the better choices. Highly durable and capable of superb accuracy, it is one of a few all steel choices for general utility. Easily capable of presenting grave danger to clay birds resting on the berm at 100 yards.
