That was at KCRQ Palomar Airport in San Diego. My local airport. Its right next to Camp Pendleton, we also get a lot of helicopter traffic too ( v22, cobras, venoms). However I think the t-34 came from miramar air station about 10 mins away.

I spent 6 months in San Diego and knew a CFI that worked out of Palomar but I never made it to fly with him. I flew a few times with a local CFI friend out of KSEE. Must be something at KCRQ to be drawing in the x/c birds. Do you have a $1 lunch with gas purchase at the FBO?
