I saw that show: absolutely amazing.

They said he touched down at something like 258 knots!

One thing - they can't be US military pilots. The temerity / skill needed can only mean they are IDF/AF fighter pilots. US military fighter pilots would have ejected 1st chance they could.

IIRC, it was an IDF plane.

I would have looked at the damage, concluded the airplane was totalled, and decided it wasn't worth having it roll over on short final just to bring back a collection of future spare parts. All the dude got out of it was bragging rights...

Actually I'm not sure he could even see all the damage.

It was IDF. When I was stationed at Elmendorf there was a 15 that got shot by another 15 with an AIM-9. Took off the left horizontal stab, half of the left wing, and FOD'd out the left engine. It flew back to EAFB and landed fine. The fuselage is a lifting body itself. This incident happened before I got there, but the whole story and photos were posted on the wall in Hanger 4 there.
