Default worth filing an ASAP?

Was taxing in from kord the other day to An E gate and atc told us to taxi W cross 4L and then A to the gate we did this and made a right on A ( counter clockwise)we were almost at the gate and ground told us to stop and turn around and that we should have made a left on A and enter the gate on the north side. In the original instruction he never told us to make a left and making a right turn on A made the most sense. Just wondering if this is worth filing an ASAP for?

Would I? Yes. Should you absolutely? No. ORD does not care what you do on the ground so long as you do it fast.

When in doubt, fill it out.

Unless they gave you a number to call don't worry about it. That happens literally hundreds of time a day. Seriously...it's no big deal.

Nope no number to call, just did a 180 and taxied back up and entered on the north side I talked with the captain and he said it wasn't a big deal and we could file an ASAP if I wanted but he doubted anything would come of it so we decided not to.

If you might need it, fill one out.

Whether or not you fill one out as it won't protect you at this point anyway.

The FAA is not allowed to base an investigation off an ASAP. But since they can base it off ATC making a "compliant" (which I doubt they did) your ASAP is meaningless in terms of protecting you from investigation/violation.

That being said, I highly doubt any controller would waste their time with something as minuscule as this.

I'm not sure how this works at your company, but in most cases this statement 100% incorrect. An ASAP will protect you from enforcement action whether it is "sole-source" or not, unless it is excluded for deadline, intentional disregard ...

This statement is true.

Let me put it this way... If the Feds can build an entire case without even knowing of a report being filed they can come after you. It doesn't mean they will, just that they can. Most CHDO level Feds are wise enough to only fight the big battles.

An ASAP normally provides more protection than this.

Also, unless a runway incursion occurred or some other FAR was broken, it's hard to violate someone over a taxi clearance...turns out the FARs don't really give ATC the authority to direct taxi ops, they're more advisory (except for clearance into a runway, which is regulatory).

But if it makes you feel better, file an ASAP they're free and it might turn out you were the 20th guy this month who had the same problem...maybe it's a system issue that can be fixed.
