My personal mins for the TA
#31
Jeez, get over yourself. I'm a line pilot(A no voter on TA15), throwing out some thoughts about the contract talks. Yes scope and retirement are on my list as well, especially scope as it relates to ALL of our JV's and lack of wide body growth. Trial balloon? Like I'm a shill for the company? Hardly.
I dont think anyone thinks youre a shill. More like a centrist. Which is fine. This board, me included, is generally populated by the enough is enough crowd. We are the voice of the overworked, I know something is wrong but, I cant put my finger on it crowd.
Your opinion is appreciated because you are clearly a reasonable guy. We would love for you to join the enough is enough group. The time for restoration is now. The deadzoners own the vote and the floor, if they want to.
If punched in the face enough, even a pacifist will fight back. That is where we are IMO.

These are called negotiations and although we clearly stand to make significant gains in all sections of the contract, I think its not unreasonable to address a few company issues. They must be offset though with MAJOR gains for us. I will judge any TA in its totality, not just over a few items.

Its time they address our needs, we've been addressing theirs for over 10 years.

I have said this before and I will say it again. I need a PENSION. A rock solid, unable to retract tool to give us at lease 60% FAE or ok, 50%..
I became an airline pilot to enjoy my days off; instead I am more focused on what to do with my money or lack of money to ensure a comfortable retirement. I am not a financial analyst, stock guru or a person that can predict what the big institutions are going to do. No matter what I think I know, I will never ever be able to perfectly time the markets to achieve a solid 60% FAE on my own. The Big Money has control of that and god forbid on my 65th birthday, they decide to sell.
It is time to bring back a program that ensures and guarantees 60% FAE to us. Plain and simple.

If that's what you want then you will have to save enough to buy yourself an annuity at age 65 that will supply you with enough money for your monthly requirements(although neither a company pension or an annuity will guarantee inflation protection - in fact few (if any) pensions have inflation raises built in).
This misguided idea that we can get a pension back that we lost is NEVER going to happen. Private industries are doing everything in their power to get rid of their pensions and the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC) that has a responsibility for whatever leftover pensions we get is functionally bankrupt (can't meet their future obligations). It is another one of those Private quasi governmental agencies (like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc) that was supposed to be funded by the premiums charged to pension trust funds has had way too many bankrupt company pensions dumped on it and won't have enough (going forward) to meet all of its future obligations.
The ONLY WAY to guarantee your retirement economic future is have control of it. If you can't invest well enough to meet those obligations then you're going to have to save enough with no risk investments (think money market funds) to fund your own retirement. Companies no longer want to take the risks on themselves and in this environment why would they?
Might want to start working on your other requirements for the TA because this one is not even on the table.
