Flight Instructing Forever
I will be unable to obtain a 1st or 2nd class medical. (You can look at my post in pilot health if you are interested in why)
I'm wondering where the best place to work as a career flight instructor would be? I am looking to work my way up through an organization; senior flight instructor, assistant chief, chief, etc... Also, do I have any options other than flight instructing considering I will not be able to obtain a 1st or 2nd class medical? I am currently flight instructing at an FBO, but it is definitely not a career job. I have 400 TT and 110 dual given.
Thanks so much,
UNDGUY

I believe there is a place in Napa, Ca that trains asian pilots. For the life of me I can't remember their name.
Also, there is a place in Bakersfield , Ca running the same type operation.
Sorry to hear about your medical issue. Put things in prespective and move on - you're in control of your future. No one else.

To act as a commercial pilot (someone paying you to fly their plane) requires a 2nd class medical. Flight instructing doesn't fall under that category, so no 2nd class needed.

In order to serve as PIC while instructing, you need a third class medical. This applies if the student is not rated in the airplane.
If the student is rated in the airplane you can do instrument add-ons & IPCs (VMC only), BFR's, fam flights, etc.
The best way to make a living as a career instructor is to find a narrow niche and charge well for it: Cirrus instructor, Garmin instructor, ME instructor, CFI instructor etc. Instructing at the basic level is a wh*re's market, so a career CFI needs to take advantage of his higher level of experience to teach in areas where the airline-bound CFI's are too inexperienced to tread.

If you're a UNDGUY, why not stay at UND? Leads make pretty good money, plenty of beer to drink, watch the Sioux play, and who knows, maybe someday you'll have Clausen's job!
