You are wrong on many points you have made in your posts. Let me try and clarify a few. Some of this info comes from a friend who was at a meeting with some CPO types last week and this question was asked.
The good news:
MSP actually grew last year about 2% in size as a pilot base.
MSP is one of Deltas most profitable hubs due to the large number of business travelers. MSP has more Fortune 500 companies HQ than ATL.
Delta has direct international flights to AMS, LHR, CDG, and NRT
The bad news:
No wide body base
Uncertain future on the ER and what if any replacement. Not much backfilling occurring. The bus has stabilized and we have some new hires coming in with in the first year. 88 is about the same.
It is extremely senior from about the 1/3 to1/2 point in any FO seat. Captains aren't moving up to WB because this was Mecca back in the NWA days and most guys live here and won't commute.
For the foreseeable future Deltas not going to leave MSP and if you like history here's a little lesson for you. Mr. Anderson was CEO of NWA and understood the fortress hub mentality, i.e. defend at all cost. With the amount of business travelers in MSP Delta will defend its strong hold. As to your 60% RJ number I believe we are about 40% ( still to high) and shrinking them.
Business want direct flights and except for a few city pairs Delta is the ticket and will remain so for the foreseeable future

I don't think "wrong" is the right word. Different thoughts then yours yes, but you really can't say someone is wrong just because you have a friend that talked to someone. Furthermore, what I am saying is that people don't like flying on RJs and do it purely out of necessity, and as soon as more players are in MSP and grow there it's going to hurt the base for others that are already there. That is just my guess though, no way to tell the future. Just like you don't know, regardless of what "friend" you talked to. You might think you know, you might think that almighty Delta will never downsize a base or close it, you might think that Delta can fight off any competition, but how do you know this?
Let's look case in point at to your comment that SWA is coming to MSP. They have been here for years and they are now increasing capacity out of MSP. So you would think Delta must be shaking in their boots, not so they are doing it by decreasing the presence of AirTran flights.
MSP could very well down size for Delta but I would be I don't see it anytime soon. In fact last time Anderson was here he spoke about expanding the role of Delta in MSP. But yes this is a fickle business and anything can happen
To the OP pick a place you and the family want to live and go. No one knows what will happen next week let alone for a 30 year career, good luck and enjoy the ride.

I think January may prove to be an illuminating month for everyone, when the Seattle bid opens...
Cheers!

I know because I ve watched this management team when they were NWA. I ve seen how they react to competition. Seriously you come on here and spout a bunch of inaccurate "facts" and expect people to believe you or not challenge you. You claimed Delta doesn't fly international, you claim a majority of flights are RJ, you claim that soon SWA and others will come to MSP. All of which have been proven wrong..
Based on this background, he should already know the answers to his questions or he's trolling.
Either way, we've wasted too much time on him..
Banzai; Welcome aboard!!..and I recommend the 88. You'll have a constant flow of guys under you, you'll get a line sooner regardless of where you get based which will help with the commute, and you won't have to go thru training before you can bid back to MSP. Good luck!
