Don't forget Delta once had a huge base in DFW. There were L1011's, L1015's (international L10's) 767ER's both flying to Europe, non-stop from DFW, and DC 8's, 757, 727, 737, MD88's all based in DFW. The base was nearly as big as ATL, with about 2,500 total pilots.
John Malone, the famous C2K negotiator and later our MEC Chairman, was from DFW. He pi$$ed of the management in ATL so much that they closed DFW a month early, just to get rid of the 3 DFW LEC votes just prior to the election for a new DALPA chairman...
Lee Moak, who was running against John Malone, won. John would have won that election if the base had stayed open one more month.
If the MSP LEC guys don't vote YES for the next 4,8,3,3 you can be sure the base will be closed, asap. Maybe even before the vote if things heat up enough.
The only reason CVG is still a base is, their LEC Reps. always vote YES for concessions.
Pull your heads out guys, it's not about flights in/out of each base, it's about voting YES.
Yes = money (for the company).
Follow the money.

Good stuff. Here's what my guesswork was based on:
200+ A320 positions at MSP = approx 1 year to hold.
50 73N positions at SEA = approx 4 years to hold. However, plan for another 50 the following year, and amend towards 3. This also assumes that a number of LAX crews are actually living up in the PNW, and commuting to LAX; which I know many do. So I see them jumping on the available spots soonest.
Not saying I'm right - I'm learning right now - just wanted to say that I wasn't basing on previous movement rates, rather just extrapolating ratios.

No way to know for sure until it happens, but remember there will tons of other opportunities as senior FOs move up to CA. It really is amazing how quick thinks move in periods of massive hiring.
Like I said - I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

So their LEC votes will cancel out, one yes and one no. MSP should survive for now.

Delta Air Lines Inc. CEO Richard Anderson told a crowd of business leaders Tuesday that the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is the best-run airport in the world.
"The airport is incredibly well-run, incredibly efficient and everything is done professionally there," said Anderson, speaking at the MSP Airport Luncheon, hosted by Airport Foundation MSP at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis.
Anderson's company may be based out of Atlanta, but he's got plenty of experience at MSP. He used to be CEO of Northwest Airlines, which had its headquarters here and is still a big hub for Delta.
Anderson expects an 8 percent increase in the number of passengers Delta serves out of MSP between now and 2019.

This article was written on Sept 23, 2014; so for now RA expects growth in MSP (whether or not there is a pilot base there).

Minneapolis has a lot of O&D. It's home to 20 fortune 500 companies and the state of Minnesota is one of the best economies in the country. I read somewhere that it is by far Deltas most profitable hub on a per passenger basis and Richard Anderson calls it one of the best airports in the world to operate out of. I wouldn't lose too much sleep about MSP going away as a Delta hub/base.

Many of those companies (18 Fortune 500 companies in 2014) also have their own (substantial) corporate flight departments for their ultra high value travelers. 3M, United Healthcare, General Mills, US Bank, Target, etc.
MSP is not going away. It's also never going to have a meaningful WB presence.
But to the original question, it's not going to grow like SEA (or at all).

I never said MSP was going to grow. My wife's sister is a big buck in house attorney for 3M. She has never stepped foot on one of their Gulfstreams. She is married to a 3M EVP and he has never ridden on one either. They are both Diamond elite on Delta. Rank and file rarely get to ride on the corporate jets.
