No MD88 openings? I'm not sure I understand the information you posted.

Why is the 767 not a popular choice? Is it just the movement and openings created by the International expansion, or the relief crewmember issue?

and most importantly, how long to bid back to Atlanta on anything?

Thank you - exciting times trying to plan on my first year at Delta. Waiting on the class date call, wish it would come sooner rather than later.

P.S. 1,600 ASA ground personnel just came over with a 6/1 date of hire. Do you know if the DOH for pass benefits is the day of the "Conditional Offer" letter or sometime during indoc? It would be nice if DCI pilots could get the same deal the rampers got.

There were 120 new hire positions in ATL on the 88 on the last bid. As we get the AA/TWA 757's, that number will only grow. Go to APC and look at the number of aircraft we are receiving. They are all EXPANSION aircraft. Not replacement.

The 767 is a great aircraft, however, being jr. on a sr. aircraft sucks ... and you could expect to be jr. for years. You would have to commute for reserve in NY or ATL which means sitting in a crash pad with ten of your best friends.

Not long. We just had a bid come out with 120 new hire f/os on the 88, and I believe it was 42 f/o's on the 800. It will not take long, HOWEVER, I believe that many new hires will get the ER or 75/76 in NY.

I didn't post the given new hire aircraft. NYC MD-88 is a given and ATL MD-88 is pretty much a given. With the shortage in the NYC 7er category it will not surprise me if they walk into a couple of classes and assign all to the NYC ER. Passes are based on DOH when you actually start at Delta not conditional hire letter date.

So as a new hire how many days away from home can one expect a month sitting reserves and commuting? What does a typical reserve schedule look like?

I appreciate all the info coming out, just trying to get an idea what expect once I start.

You can expect 12 days off per month. You usually get a four day block off with two three days, and maybe a two day. Or two four days, and some other combination. You can commute. If you get released from reserve on your last day of reserve you can get home on your last day of reserve. Good luck. I'm sure others will chime in.

The lastest rumor is the seat lock on several aircraft will be released to help releave the 767ER problem. Guess management or union don't know which are not that happy about new hires flying ER.

Anyone know if new hires are able to hold line on the ER NYC?

IMHO, new hires will not be able to hold a line for some time. Things, however, are very dynamic. Whatever advice you receive today may not be valid six months from now. A new bid came out today for nearly sixty ER f/o's in NY and six E/R f/o's in the ATL. There was also a bid for roughly fifty domestic 76 f/o's in ATL. The lines expand in the summer, so a guy might be able to hold a line in the summers only.

What we tell you today could be null and void tomorrow. There is one other factor to think about. Some pilots went back on active duty and leave of absence. As they return over the years, you will experience a slight 'reversal' in seniority. With the projected new hires, this will be negligible.

so what is the base breakdown these days? how big is dtw? msp? the dc9 vs the 320 vs maybe the atl 80?

ATL is going super senior due to the displacements and NWA folks that commuted THROUGH it to the other bases..not all the NWA folks are bidding into ATL..some. The ATL guys on the 76-500 bid down, while a few chased the iron.

I am a Mar 2001 hire and am 1/2 way up the -88 list in ATL. Can hold a bottom line on a 73-800 during the summer...not winter...and that is it. Give's you an idea about ATL.

MSP and DTW are the most junior of the FNWA bases....NYC is the most junior FDAL base.

This latest bid spread the wealth out....looks like bases got more senior and the junior guys got spread out.
