Yeah basically career-enhancing for the airlines...flying with all those SELRES.

You're never going to be a fleet CO, but the guys I know that took it were flying the globe as C-9 and C-130 Aircraft commanders as JG's and yes, all went in to the airlines and switched to SELRES.

The basic terms of the deal were you served two years active (really FTS), then 6 SELRES.

I can think of at least two other times going back more than 30 years they've sent "nuggets" to VR. The times I know of they came from the jet pipeline. Naval Aviation does some strange things with their manning. Marines to Navy, then a few years later Navy to Marines, full non-flying tours straight out of flight school or TBS, delays in beginning Aviation Indoctrination so long students used the spare time to pick up a masters degree, giving pilot bonuses then turning around and RIFing some of the same pilots they just gave bonuses to and many more instances of poor manpower planning. By comparison, the Department of the Navy makes UAL's Manpower Planning department look positively clairvoyant and that's saying something.
