Is it possible to hold STL right out of training? Also how long is the upgrade in STL.

You can hold STL out of training. I was in class in November and everyone got their choice.
At the moment, IAD is short first officers. There were four reserve lines in April and no reserve ines in May. One entire class came to IAD. You may be able to change domiciles while in taining. I've seen one or two do it.

Is anyone doing a commute to IAD from south florida. If so, how bad is it? I have experience commuting for several years, but not on that route so I know about all the usual issues.

If any new waterskiers need a house to rent in STL, send me a PM. I have a place down HWY 70 west, right over the bridge. There is a GOJET sucks sticker on the door already.

Lots of guys do it and they all complain that its rough. From what I gather its a lot of 2 legging it or going thru DCA since IAD doesn't seem to have many direct flights to the south FL cities. Also over the past few years the MCO guys have gone from like 15 flights a day to like 3.

Good luck, I hope it works for you, but after living here for that last two years, I dont think it would be a commute (DCA-IAD) that I would want to endure. I hope you can get into IAD direct.

How about at DFW to IAD and/or DFW to STL commute?

Guys do that DCA to IAD commute all the time. But they don't rely on it. It's usually a backup in case IAD is full or doesn't work out on a particular day. It's metro and then a bus to IAD from DCA. It does take about an hour and a half or more so leave yourself plenty of time. Once the metro goes all the way out to IAD it will be somewhat better. But like a person said previously, that's about 5 years away. I think they're saying 2018 completion date right now. I wouldn't make the DCA route your only option - just a nice backup to have.
