Does anyone know how many total pilots are in TSA right now, not the out dated number from Airline Pilot Central please?
Last week, training department told me reserve is two to three months right now, is that accurate?
Also the training department told me, they were running two new hire classes per month for last three months, but from now on they will be running one a month. At same time, they said they are hiring as many as possible this year.
If they want as many pilots as possible, why are they shrinking their new hire class size?
Any one?

It might not be that they are shrinking the class size, maybe they are not getting as many applicants as they would like so they are running one class a month to save money instead of running two very small classes. Places are starting to see that Pinnacle guys are not really jumping ship anymore and the Comair guys are employed so the pool is drying up even further.

Current number is around 320 I think. That's not taking into account guys on military leave or medical. Probably about 20-30 are on some kind of leave. Not sure about the reserve facts. I know that out in IAD they had more lines than they had FO's. Anyone see the latest standing bid for CA? 3 guys were from 2007 and then the rest of the list is september 2012 hires or newer.

From what I understand, and I could very well be incorrect, Is that running two classes a month is quite the endeavor when an airline is accustomed to running one per month, or less.
It's twice the amount of paperwork and pulls a greater number of training pilots offline into the school house. During the summer months I think it is more beneficial to have these guys out helping online rather than teaching class.

Total 320 pilots in house?

Okay, you have 25 existing planes, and 7 more coming, so total will be 32 airplanes. Lets say company needs average 10 pilots per plane to efficiently run the lines, so you need 32 planes x 10pilots=320 pilots.
You do have already 320 pilots in house. Is that why they are shrinking class sizes to one per month? Are they going to stop new hire classes in near future? Or am I missing something?

They want 20 people per class but the reality has been class sizes of 10-15 since January. Wouldn't be surprised if they go to one a month just so they can run larger classes. Saves a bunch of money.

Company is anticipating a lot of attrition come fall when United, Delta, American, and US Airways plus all the others that have been hiring (Jetblue, etc) are running classes. Plus there are rumors of something else big in the works, but no solid information.

Some of the people in my class that qualify for upgrade are already being offered the opportunity. For my class in January the Dulles guys held lines in May (after 3 weeks reserve) and the St Louis guys are still on reserve. Looks like just about everybody in Dulles will hold lines next month. If you go to Dulles reserve will be shorter than St Louis.
